Principal's News

Dear APS Community

Another busy week but again, very rewarding. A definite highlight was seeing our Year 1 children run the whole school assembly and perform their song. Having each year level host assembly has given all children the opportunity to be active participants in our assemblies and an appreciation of what is needed to run a whole school event.

Another highlight was the Carnival run by our student SRC team in partnership with the PFA. The team of Bo, Hannah and Inti enlisted the support of several year 5/6 volunteers to help with the stalls and PFA ran a fabulous sausage sizzle stall. This lunchtime carnival raised $1500 that will be going towards the planning of The Friendship Circle. We are so impressed with the teamwork our students and parents showed to put on such a great event.

Our Year 5/6s have been enjoying a week away in Canberra. They have visited many places and we look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return tomorrow. The photos show us that they are all having a fabulous time:

RECONCILIATION WEEK

All children engaged in various activities throughout the week. The emphasis was on acknowledging Aboriginal culture and learning from Aboriginal people. Many enjoyed watching the video shared at assembly and learning about the ways indigenous people observed weather patterns and were able to identify more than the 4 seasons that traditionally we have been taught at school. Hopefully the week has offered children a sense of unity and acceptance of all people.

WHAT’S COMING UP?

CURRICULUM DAY – Monday 5 June

This is a pupil free day and there will NOT be any school on that day. Teachers will use the day to start writing reports. These reports are detailed and will offer you valuable information about your child as a learner. If you require childcare on the day, please take advantage of the OOSCH program run by TEAM KIDS. Bookings are now open via the following link:

PLAYGROUND UPDATE

After a meeting with the playground contractors on Wednesday, we were told that demolition is expected to begin next week. We look forward to this beginning. We have not been given a definite end date as yet but as we know, we will let you know.
