Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

‘Be a Voice for Generations’ was the theme for Reconciliation Week this year and our students in Room 2 did a wonderful job running an assembly with this theme and coming up with words that gave the students the opportunity to express what it meant to them.

Thank you to all classes for their activities this week as well as acknowledging Sorry Day last Friday with a range of activities and discussions, some with the assistance of Ms Maciel, our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer.

A planned Water Corporation cultural incursion planned for Monday was postponed but will be rescheduled later in the term.

At a recent staff meeting, staff worked through resources regarding the Voice to Parliament referendum that has been released by the Education Department.

The Department is also committed to establishing an Aboriginal Advisory Body, contributing to Native Title negotiations and agreements, developing a Reconciliation statement and implementation plan as well as assisting with enriching our school curriculum and learning environments with Aboriginal histories, languages and cultures.

Our school is working closely with Department Aboriginal Education staff, one of whom is a former student, with professional learning planned for our term 4 School Development Day. All staff have currently completed the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework professional learning with some also completing the newly released webinars on culturally responsive pedagogies.

Our current school RAP-Reconciliation Action Plan, along with the Uluru statement is in each of our classrooms. Our school, along with all government schools, are committed to build on the important journey of reconciliation.

Recently students from year four sat the IMSS music aptitude test. Depending on the results, a number of students will have the opportunity to play an instrument during years 5 and 6 at Fremantle College as part of the Instrumental Music program.

This initiative has been available to 11 local schools for a number of years.

Thank you for your support for the recent school photos morning.

The School Board, which meets twice a term, have two vacancies coming up. The group of 5 parents and 4 staff meet on a Thursday evening during the term.

Our Faction Captains are doing a wonderful job currently, working with staff preparing and running Friday sport activities that will lead to the Winter Sports carnival at the end of term.
