Visual Art 

The Term 2 Unit of Inquiry is called 'Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art' which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme- 'Where We Are In Place And Time'. 

 

The Unit focuses on modern Australian Aboriginal art and how it reflects community life today. There is often a clear connection to past cultural traditions, through storytelling, music, art and knowledge of land and animals. 

 

Students Participate In:

  • Modelling a ceramic pot design inspired by the work of Hermannsburg Potters and the concept of storytelling 
  • Detail design expressing an activity/hobby they enjoy
  • Completing a painted detail to their Hermannsburg/Greek pots
  • Creating a mix medium Aerial Map exploring the use of colour and pattern inspired by the works from Fitzroy crossing in the Kimberley region, which is located, North of Perth in Western Australia 
  • Totem printmaking using different shaped print plates with detailed designs to construct a totem composition, inspired by the Pukamini poles “Tutini” of the Tiwi Islands

Japanese

Term Focus:

Unit Of Inquiry:

'How The World Works'  

Innovation in technology impacts society and the environment.  

The Students Are Able To: 

  • Recognize and spell from N-line to W-line hiragana characters 
  • Tell what kind of high-tech products they have in Japan and how they impact Japanese society and the environment
  • Say and spell phrases for a skit (a Japanese quiz show) and perform it
  • Say and write about their family and pets (who, what and how many) in Japanese

Library

The children are timetabled weekly, to borrow books from the library with their classroom teachers. During these borrowing sessions, they will gain a better understanding of library locations and the borrowing/returning procedures. 

 

The focus will be on reading for enjoyment, interest and information. The children will have the opportunity to consolidate their literacy skills and further their development in literature appreciation. 

 

The library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information. 

 Physical Education 

  Unit Of Inquiry:

Invasion Games: AFL and Touch Football, Oz Tag. 

 

Circus Skills and beginning of athletics activities with a focus on running for sprints and cross country. 

  Focus:  

  • Refine the basic and complex motor skills of passing, kicking, throwing and catching in game situations
  • Looking at cultural games that are related to Australian traditional winter sports from around the world such as Gaelic football, Speedball, Grid Iron  
  • Continue refining the concepts of attacking and defending and moving into space during these games  

 

  • Running techniques for both long and short distance events with fitness running warmups

 

Circus Skills

  • Enhance balance
  • Hand eye coordination 
  • Strength 
  • Flexibility
  •  Rotational movements 
  • Creativity with equipment: diablo, spinning plates, Poi, hoops, clubs and devil sticks. 

 

We are also developing perseverance, confidence and resilience with this program to encourage students to take a risk and try all activities.

Performing Arts 

Term Focus:

Drama

This unit delves into both the skills of dramatic performance and life skills directly associated with acting and performance such as confident posture, clear speaking, using face and body to express emotion and working collaboratively with others. 

 

We are working within 4 areas of drama:

  • Voice
  • Body
  • Emotion
  • Stage Direction

These Are Explored Within: 

  • Drama Games and Drama Exercises targeting specific skills 
  • Exploring characterisations and dialogues  
  • Tackling short scenes from our main performance piece – Cinderalla 
  • Students rehearse in small groups and then perform to their classmates
  • And of course, they know how to be good audience members!
