Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

Term 2

We welcome back all of our families for the start of Term 2 and we hope that you had a restful break. It was great to speak to a number of students about their what they got up to over the school holiday break and their time spent with family and friends.

Term 2 brings about another busy term that is full of exciting opportunities for our students in and out of the classroom.

All the best to everyone for the term ahead and we all look forward to celebrating the success of our students over the next 10 weeks.

Anzac Day Ceremony

Our students this week have been engaging and participating in a variety of learning experiences to learn about and pay tribute to those that have served our country at war.

On Wednesday, two of our school captains Jack H and Violet attended the Geelong and District Schools’ 85th Annual ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony at Johnstone Park in Geelong with me.

It is an important part of our students education to understand the history of our great country, including the sacrifices that so many have made to afford us the many opportunities and privileges we have today.

Lest we forget.

Kids Huddle - AFL

On Saturday 13th April artwork from our Grade 5-6 students was displayed on a welcoming board for the visiting Greater Western Sydney Giants team when they took on our mighty Geelong Cats. This board is the first thing visiting players and coaches see when they arrive at the stadium.

This welcoming board is part of an AFL initiative called "Kids Huddle" which celebrates our community spirit - friendly, encouraging and warm.

Our "Welcome" worked a little too well with the Cats going down to GWS by 4 points!!

Geelong Cats Sensory Zone Launch

Today I had the great pleasure of attending the official launch of the Geelong Cats Sensory Zone which is an Australian first initiative for a Sporting Stadium.

The project in its entirety is designed to make attending football games and events more accessible for people and families who experience difficulties with regards to sensory processing. Whilst the dedicated Sensory Zone itself has a number of fantastic features, it's is the stadiums broader commitment to ensuring that employee and community awareness and understanding of sensory processing difficulties are acknowledged and accommodated, that will ultimately ensure long term success.

Already students from ACS have visited and accessed the space and I have no doubt this new facility will benefit many families attending GMHBA Stadium in the years to come.

Our school been a partner as part of the steering committee since the project commenced and very proud to have been able to contribute to the end product.

Special Olympics

Indee and Jasmin competed at the Victorian Championships for Special Olympics Gymnastics during the holidays. This is their 3rd year of competing and they had to complete their routines in front of more than 100 people. Judging by the amount of bling around their necks they had a very successful event! Well done Indee and Jas!

Geelong Tech School - Year 7-9

On Wednesday, the Years 7-9 went on an excursion to Geelong Tech School. They created space dioramas that included robotics. This was a great activity where students collaborated together to create amazing work. The students were very committed and were really excited about the end result.

'We planned how this should look like on a piece of paper and then coloured in different space objects. We cut them out and pasted them onto the diorama. We really liked how you could code on the laptop to make the things move and light up.

We made the space ship move, the planet Saturn light up and the black hole spin.

The staff were great at Geelong Tech and it was great fun.'

2020 Year 7-10 Information Evening

Our 2020 Year 7-10 Parent Information session will be held on Thursday 2nd May from 6.30pm-7.30pm in the Secondary School Building (Fairhaven).

Mother's Day Stall - 9 & 10/5/19

PACC have organised for lovely gifts to be available for purchase on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May for $5 each if students are wishing to buy for Mother's Day. The stall will be open in the Library from 9-11am each morning and Learning Communities will be given the opportunity to browse and purchase during that time. Students are asked to bring $5 in an envelope on Thursday 9/5/19. Extra gifts may be purchased 10/5/19 if still remaining.
