Parents In Classrooms

Parents are often curious about what the learning program is like in a modern classroom or specialist program. Teachers will often invite parents to classroom or specialist programs to assist. This includes helping with SMP, listening to students reading or working with a group of students at the table. The ‘Parent Helpers Program’ begins each year once the teachers have established the class routines with students. The ‘Classroom Helpers Program’ is a timetabled arrangement where teachers and parents can all know when and where to be.

Some parents have been entering classrooms and specialist programs without invitation and thereby disrupting the flow of the lessons. Parents should not enter classrooms or specialist programs without prior arrangement or invitation.

Security and Student Safety

Parents must not go directly to classrooms to remove a student for an appointment. Our security protocols clearly outline that all parents should enter the school via the front door, sign in at the Compass kiosk and speak with the reception staff at the Office. The Office staff will then contact the teachers so that the students can come to the Office with their bag. The parent and the student should then leave the school from the Office area
