Performing Arts

We have a lot going on in the Performing Arts department right now!  I am sure that you have heard it all at home already, but here is a little update…

THREE plays have been written or adapted to suit our 456 student populated school.

Every class in the Junior and Middle school has their own number, song, dance and drama piece.

Within each performance, there is a variety of different characters, chosen by the students.   These characters are based on the letter of the alphabet already pre-selected for each class and they range from animals, to inanimate objects, and include a wide variety of super heroes and Disney characters.

What is original about these shows is that they are linked together through the main characters from Alice in Wonderland.  Each scene / class flows into the next one as Alice and the White Rabbit go on their journey.

In the Senior School we are using the original adaption of Alice in Wonderland, mashed up with two other versions.  This allows for over 35 lead roles, 30 supporting roles, ensemble, solo dancers and a dedicated backstage team that will work all THREE shows!

Each student at the school will have some direction in their costume and some say in how THEIR character should look.  There will not be two characters dressed the same, even in the ensemble.

This means parents, we need your help!   We will need you to be involved in PART of the creation of your child’s costume; in helping those (especially the younger students) find the identity of their character and their part in the show.  *Do not stress about this part yet, we have plenty of time!  :)  However, I am putting the call out for some donations or ‘borrowed’ items.

I really need the following:

  • Alice in Wonderland Costume to fit 7/8 year old and 9/10 year old
  • Queen of Hearts Costume to fit 7/8 and 9/10 year old
  • Variety of CRAZY and colourful looking hats, shirts and wigs (that can be donated)

Finally if you have any Alice in Wonderland items, storybooks, toys etc. that you would be happy to let us borrow for the foyer display, we would greatly appreciate it!

Remember that we are all MAD here!
