Sustainability Report

Dear Readers,
As the weather is getting colder, it becomes more challenging to find days to get out and about! Whilst visiting my family in the city on the weekend, although dressed in 3 coats, a beanie, gloves, boots and ski socks, I took a stroll down memory lane. I couldn’t help but observe the array of bright colours that surround the path. I felt like a kid again, kicking up the leaves and remembering how much fun we had outside back in the day.
It did make me wonder; ‘Are we avoiding nature in the 21st century?’ and, ‘What can we do to appreciate and protect what we already have?’. I had seen this video clip on YouTube and encourage you to be inspired by it too. However, all this talk about winter coming has not discouraged our Student Sustainability Team from working on the Veggie Patch! They planted beetroot, lettuce, potatoes, beans, spring onion, cabbage and carrots, among many other vegetables and herbs. Well done to the Student Team for cleaning the Patch initially and getting it started for this year.
Also a very big thank you to Rebecca Sampieri, a Parent who has been volunteering her time to assist our students and community with this program.

Of late, I have also noticed students are going to great efforts to walk or wheel to school, such as wearing rain-coats, gloves and scarves and of course safety helmets. It is wonderful to see our community contributing to reducing air pollution in ways they can. Although we are seeing evidence of small changes we can make in our daily lives to contribute to the well-being of our planet, I would like to remind each individual to remember to conserve this precious resource that we rely so heavily on and often take for granted.
On 3rd June, our school will be participating in World Environment Day. This year, the event is being hosted by China with a focus on Air Pollution. At school, students will learn about and have discussions based on the impact we all have on our environment in relation to air pollution. If you would like to find out more about this event, their website is: https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/
