Visual Arts - Term 2

This has been a very busy term in the Art Studio and students have been exploring the element of colour and we can’t wait to share some of the finished work with you.

Foundation students have been exploring the basics of colour and have looked at the Primary Colours of Red, Yellow and Blue.  Students have completed some rooster paintings with these colours and discovered that when these colours are mixed we get the Secondary Colours of Orange, Green and Purple.  As the term has progressed our Foundation students have moved from exploring playdough to using clay to roll coil snakes which will be fired and painted over the next few weeks.

Warm and Cool Colours have been the focus for students in Level One and Two.  They explored where on the colour wheel these colours are located.  Students have then produced some amazing city scenes with either warm or cool colours.  Over the next few weeks students in this level will move to exploring playdough before moving onto making clay pinch pot animals.

Levels Three and Four have explored their understanding of the colour wheel looking in particular at the colour combinations opposite each other on the colour wheel.  These colours are complementary colours and offer a wonderful contrast against each other.  Students have used these combinations to design their own products.  We will be using this colour knowledge to create some interesting designs in their clay work.

In Level Five and Six students have been exploring Monochromatic Colour and developing their understanding of the terms Hue, Tint and Shade.  As seen in some of the developing work, students are creating images with a sense of movement and using the monochromatic effect for impact.

We hope you enjoy some of the progress images of the students work.
