Principal's Report

Capital Works 2019

I am thrilled to announce that we are almost at the tender stage for our capital works program.  I have created a display of some of the architect’s concept drawings in the foyer of the school’s main building.  I have also included a few of these pictures with this article.

The works will take place in stages:

Stage 1: The Administration area of the school through to the end of room 1 – estimated commencement date 8th October, 2019

Stage 1A: The Foundation Toilets - estimated commencement date 8th October, 2019

Stage 2: The remainder of the main building – Early 2020

The first step will be the delivery of two relocatable classrooms late June /early July 2019.  These will be used to decant the classrooms which will be impacted by the Stage One works.  The administration staff and Principal class will work from rooms 2 and 3 throughout the stage 1 works, which are estimated to take between 16 and 20 weeks.

The old entry to the school outside Room 1 will be our main entry for this period.

This is going to be an exciting and very complex period of time for our school where we will all need to work together to ensure it is a calm process with reduced impact on the learning and well-being of our school community: students, teachers and families.

Earlier this year I was advised by the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA), who coordinate all school builds that the VSBA Standards do not allow funding for air conditioners other than in: multi-storey schools, special development schools, server rooms and relocatable classrooms.

They do provide gas heating in all new buildings.  I have asked for the heating not to be installed as School Council has indicated that they wish to coordinate the self-funding of ‘split systems.’  We are unable to access the monies saved by this decision to allocate towards the split systems and must prove that we have adequate funds to support their purchase and installation in accordance with the VSBA standards.  Monies saved will revert to the tender items on the build costing.

You may have heard me recently asking for your support at our fundraisers by adding your name to rosters to volunteer at the fete or last weekend at the Election Day Barbecue.  PFA has agreed to School Council’s request that all fundraising this year go towards accumulating monies to fund the split systems and their installation.
