Team Leader's Message

As my time as Secondary 11/12 Team Leader comes to a close, I couldn’t be any prouder of the Secondary 11/12 students and staff.  I have seen all the students mature, develop independence and improve their employability skills across various contexts.  Our students undertake a variety of programs and placements, both in school and within the wider community, addressing the VCAL outcomes and preparing themselves for life after school.

I wish to thank all the Concord School staff, external trainers and community organisations that I liaise with who continue to support our students in becoming the best they can be.

Highlights for Term 2

A major focus of the term for Year 11s was to plan and attend a two-night, three-day Melbourne City Experience camp, staying at the CYC’s City Camp, situated in Collins Street.  This venue is a fully-refurbished 1910 heritage-listed building located in the heart of Melbourne.  Our group was allocated two secure sections, each with a common room to hang out in.

Making the most of our central camp location, the group walked and used public transport to access the various activities.  With a focus on becoming more familiar with our city and also building independence, resilience and teamwork skills, the itinerary included:

  • Eating out at restaurants;
  • KingPin Bowling and arcade games;
  • The Hoddle Waddle scavenger hunt around the city;
  • Drinks at the Ice Bar (mocktails only, of course!)
  • Movies at Crown;
  • Artvo;
  • Imanginaria; and
  • Mini Golf.

The group travelled back to Concord School in peak hour on public transport.  The three days were jam-packed with activities, everybody tried something new, and we walked almost 35kms – no wonder we all slept well each night!

Presentation Ball

Oh What A Night!’

On Friday 14th May, 35 of our Year 12 students participated in their Presentation Ball, held at The Centre Ivanhoe.  Students were part of organising everything from the dresses and suits, limousines, decorations, invitations and tickets.  Students were presented to Jason Coningsby and Flora Nixon, in front of approximately 310 guests.

The students performed with great enthusiasm two group dances and also asked a special person in their life to join them on the dance floor later in the night.

After a night filled with fun, family and so much dancing, everyone has come away with a memory that will last them a lifetime.
