GD Cross Country

Last Monday, 54 students travelled to HIRL to participate in the Glenelg District Cross Country competition against seven other schools. Despite the dreadful weather, we had nine students place in their age groups: with Steven Cunningham, Chloe Foster, Sharnee Hutchison, and Matilda Mason getting age group champion, and Zach Burgess, Tiarna Keegan, Matilda Hutchison, Angus Kissel and Aisha Hendriks placing second or third in their age groups.

We have 30 or so students continuing onto the next level at the Greater Western Division in Warrnambool at a later date, which is a great effort. Everyone who participated on Monday should be really proud of their achievements representing Monivae.

Unfortunately, even though it was close, Monivae came second overall to College.

Massive thanks to Mr. Beks, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Byron and other helpers for organising the day, it would not have happened if it weren’t for you.

Clay Target Shooting

Clay Target shooting training starts on Tuesday 24th May at 3.45pm. Don’t forget Shooting Agreements are due, along with a copy of your shooting Licence and Firearm Safety Certificate.

Senior Football – Boys

On Tuesday the 18th of May, the Monivae College First XVIII played in the MCC Herald Sun country cup. The competition was set up as a round robin involving Baimbridge College, The Hamilton and Alexandra College and Portland Secondary College. We won two of the three games, unfortunately going down to The Hamilton and Alexandra College in the decider. Will Hunter was awarded Monivae’s best player for the day. The team thanks Mr. Hatherall for coaching us as well as Sarah Byron for organising the day. It is one that we all look forward to.

Basketball

A reminder that basketball playing fees are now due, please pay at the front desk.

Shout to….

A big shout out to YR 7 students Matilda Mason and Oliver Homer for competing in the North Eastern Zone Tetrathlon Championships at Benalla on the weekend of 11th May.

Athletes compete in four disciplines across the day, completing a 100m swim, 1km run, hickstead style showjumping and a cross country course with a gate and slip rail, and a laser pistol target shoot.

Matilda continued her winning streak from 2020 when she was named the Victorian State Tetrathlon Champion Sub. Junior Female, by again taking out the Sub. Junior Female title. Matilda also claimed fastest run time across all age groups and genders at the event on Sunday.

Oliver showed good form placing third in the strongly contested Sub. Junior Male section, showing his consistency in achieving another podium finish in this section.

Both Monivae students are vying for a place on Team Vic. at the upcoming 2021 Pony Club Australia National Championships, with teams to be announced later this month.  We wish them both good luck in the upcoming selections.
