Faith and Mission Report

Danny Franc

“The love of the heart of Jesus is essentially merciful. His role on earth was not to condemn but to forgive, not to shun those who suffer but to comfort them.” – Fr Jules Chevalier.

As we remind ourselves that our theme for 2021 is “Friendship”, it is important to remember the message that Jesus was indeed a friend to all. At times we find it easy to be friends with those close to us, but not as easy to be friends to those that are out of sight and out of mind.

At a recent visit to the MSC Missions Office in Kensington Sydney, Father Roger Purcell, MSC (an old collegian of Monivae), took all the Directors of Faith and Mission from the four MSC schools through a reminder of what the MSC Missions do to help out those who are less fortunate across Australia and the rest of the world. We raise funds for these missions at Mission Fair Day at the end of Term 3, but it was great to be reminded of those in need.

Continuing with the theme of friendship, our students and staff once again participated in the Uniting Church Lunches – which we do once a month. Monivae prepare meals for approximately 30-40 people, and then serve them on the day.

Our students and staff gain valuable understanding that our Catholic social teachings do not stop on religious lines, but enhancing Human Dignity is something we can all do to help.

The Uniting Church is always looking for volunteers to join the roster. If you want more information, please contact Mr. Franc at Monivae College.

Other activities that have taken place in Faith and Mission since the last newsletter include:

Staff formation:

As part of the wider MSC community, I joined the Directors of the other MSC Schools to help our schools continually grow in our Spirituality of the Heart. This formation is seen as integral to the future of the MSC schools.

Cadet Camp Mass:

Father Ted McCormack MSC joined our cadets for a lovely mass at Victoria Point on the Wednesday night of Cadet camp. It was pleasing to be able to get Father Ted involved, as he is now retired and as such is finding more time to be involved in school events.

Sustainability Victoria / Resource Smart Schools:

A group of Year 11 students, as part of their Religious Education project-based learning, are beginning the process at looking at ways to improve the way Monivae looks at sustainability throughout the school.

As part of this, we had a visit from facilitator Heinz De Chelard, who gave an informative and eye-opening presentation.

The students are now looking at how they can begin implementing programs within the school to help out future generations.
