Around the Arts

Alisa Houlihan

Visual Arts

As our subjects are a Semester in length, the Students have begun finalising their major pieces of work for assessment.

These works have often taken many weeks to plan, draft and create and this week, I have included some Year 9 and 10 work.

The year 10’s have been developing their skills with acrylic paint on canvas. They have made their own choices of topic, developed their ideas and completed a series of exercises to build technique.

The Year 9’s have been working with a range of media and have created smaller artworks in preparation for their final large mixed media artwork. They have used collage, paint, markers and stencil painting to generate these works.

Drama

 Senior School Production

A cast of seven Monivae College Senior School students have begun working on this year’s production of ‘Embers’. Written by Campion Decent, Embers is a touching play about the effects of the 2003 bushfires in Victoria’s North East and Gippsland, and the fighting spirit of small communities.

Drawn from the real-life stories of those involved, the play includes over 50 characters played by an ensemble of seven. Gripping, lyrical, comically overwrought when it seems tragic, and deeply moving when all appears lost. Embers is the story of a fire - and the people who conquered it.

The Year 10 and 11 students involved in the production have been working tirelessly to learn their lines and produce an engaging performance that will no doubt tug on your heart strings.

Lock the dates of August 20-22nd in your diary and come to see for yourself!

Music Notes

Music Staff Changes.

This week we would like to welcome Mrs. Francine Bell back to the Music Department.

Mrs. Bell is teaching piano and voice and is replacing Mrs. Laura Nichol.

Choir.

Our College Choir is an inclusive, non-auditioned ensemble that rehearses each Tuesday lunchtime. There are plenty of vacancies for students that like to sing, and we rehearse a range of different styles of music.

If your child would like to join, they don’t need to fill out any forms, just come along to a rehearsal in the music room on Tuesday lunchtimes.

Lessons

Due to the overwhelming response to our subsidised music lesson program this year, we only have a few vacancies for piano, voice and woodwind instruments.

If your child would still like to learn an instrument this Semester, Enrolment forms are available by emailing me for an electronic copy or hard copies are located at Reception.
