Library

Our Library is a hub of activity and busy-ness as we reach the half way point of Term 2.   We have experienced some change recently with our very much beloved Mrs. Sophie Claffey leaving us after a wonderful seven years together.  Mrs. Claffey contributed to our Library, indeed our entire school community, in so many ways.  Her presence shall be greatly missed.  Our gratitude to Sophie for all she has added to our Library will always be, she will not be easily forgotten.  We wish Mrs. Claffey all that is good as she and her husband, Mr. Rob Claffey embark on some wonderful new adventures together.

As fate would have it be have been blessed to appoint another very special woman as a member of our Library team.  Mrs. Holly Herrmann hails from a farm outside of Dunkeld.  She has two children currently attending the Dunkeld Consolidated School.  Mrs. Herrmann has volunteered at the Primary School for over three years, with the assistance of her friend Mrs. Jo Aarons, they operate the Library with much enthusiasm, expertise and always a warm and friendly manner.

Mrs. Herrmann practiced as a Vet here in Hamilton for fifteen years, her appointment with Monivae fulfilling other lifelong passions, reading, books and Libraries.  The stars have aligned, how lucky we are to have her with us. A very warm welcome to you Mrs. Herrmann.

Our volunteer activities continue in our local community and this week three of our Year 10 students put their hands up to assist with the regular free lunch provided to those who need it at the Uniting Church here in Hamilton.  The sit down lunch occurs once a week, Monivae College provide the lunch on a roster basis of once per month.

Being ably led by two staff members, Mrs. Caroline Coggins and Mr. Michael Harms, (who also prepared the entire meal), our students spent the better part of the day at the Uniting Church.  Their duties included setting up the dining room, plating up the meals and serving, cleaning up, and generally being convivial to those attending.  The girls came to the Library afterwards where it was wonderful to see how positively and happily they spoke of their experience.

To say that House Chess is in full swing presently would indeed be quite the understatement.  Every Lunchtime sees the Library bursting with players and spectators alike.  We are progressing well but it  does take time.

Our wonderful senior players, along with our Chess Captain, Will Hausler and Vice Captain, Justin Rundell, ably assist in “umpiring” when rules are questioned. It is great to see students from all year levels participating and learning as they go.

Jessica Hein and Adam Page competing, Sophie Walker and Tex McSwain watching on.
Jake Hausler, Year 11. Jake has been a Chess participant since Year 7, just like his older brother Will, Year 12.
