National Boarding Week
Merrin Shannon
This year we have had the privilege of working with another awesome group of Boarding students. Under Skye Braisby’s leadership, both Boarding Houses are having a wonderful year with many activities being organised.
In our two Boarding houses we have four International Boarders, Tiao Nikataake and Tiika Teuea from Kiribati and Francis Avila and Benjamin Lamoro from PNG. All students are into their second year of boarding at Monivae. We have two students from the Northern Territory; Brent Mullins and Erene Tokaibure. The rest of our boarders come from all parts of Victoria. We also have many casual boarders who stay a number of nights to ensure they get the best opportunity to study.
We have planned many activities this year. The Boarders have gone to the Halls Gap zoo, the movies, Tower Hill and Warrnambool shopping, with many other activities organised such as a Seals by the Sea tour. Thursday night is our game/movie night where both houses get together and have some fun playing games or enjoying a movie night.
The Boarders have access to the gym and pool and many of the senior students use these activities to break up their study schedule. Boarding staff are very busy this term with students coming and going from all their sporting events. Many thanks to those other parents who help out ferrying our students around the countryside to their various sporting commitments.
Our wonderful Boarding staff are always on call offering after school tutoring for those in boarding. All boarding staff in the Girls’ Boarding house during the week are teaching staff who are able to offer a wide variety of knowledge across many areas.
If you are interested in your child boarding either casually or full time, please contact Merrin Shannon (Head of Boarding) at mshannon@monivae.vic.edu.au.
