Year 5 City Camp Experience

On Monday 26th April the Year 5 students began their 3 day City Camp adventure. The children all met at the Mooroolbark Train Station with their luggage and caught a train into Southern Cross Station. They then had a small walk to our camp CYC in Collins Street. The children were able to leave their luggage at the camp and then walk to the famous MCG. They enjoyed eating their lunch on the grass before joining in a tour of the MCG grounds. Playing interactive games and going behind the scenes of where sports people warm up and prepare for their matches was certainly a highlight! We then had a lovely walk through the Botanical Gardens to the Shrine of Remembrance. All children took a guided tour through the Shrine and felt very privileged to be there just one day after ANZAC Day. The students were tired after a big day of walking and enjoyed a delicious dinner and a Trivia Night at CYC.
Day 2 began with a hot breakfast at CYC. We then strolled to the Melbourne Aquarium and enjoyed exploring and learning about animal adaptations. The children had a guided tour through the venue and loved the hands on activities as well as our 4D Ice Age movie. We enjoyed our packed lunch on the lawns after this before walking to the Queen Victoria Market. The fidget toys proved to be a popular purchase choice there. Year 5’s then walked to the Old Melbourne Gaol and enjoyed hearing about some of Australia’s most notorious criminals! We then enjoyed an ice cream in the sunshine and headed back to CYC for another lovely dinner and our very own Year 5 Talent Quest.
Our final day at camp included pancakes for breakfast and a great time at King Pin bowling. We had so much fun playing two games and enjoying a delicious snack there before returning home on the train. The Year 5 students were a pleasure to take on camp and represented Bimbadeen beautifully. Everyone came home a little tired but with lots of great highlights to share.
