MUSIC MATTERS

Notation (written music) is featuring in the Music room at the moment, with Foundation to Year 2 students learning to read and write music symbols.

We have special “practice paper” in the Music room so that if mistakes are made it’s not a big deal.  Good copies will be made in future, but learning how to write your name in Music notes, writing the “Keep the Beat” chant into beat boxes is something to trial first.  Building with forty centimetre cubed “beat boxes” while singing Charlie is a Carpenter was lots of fun. Children’s creativity is wonderful to behold, and it’s extraordinary to see what can be made with sixteen cardboard boxes.  Boats, cars, castles, towers….

The Note Knacks will be out for Open Night on 26 May so parents and siblings can build some note walls. If you want to know what they are, come and see!!

They Year 3 and 4 children have begun to play their recorders and are working really hard to cover the holes and breathe gently into the instrument to produce a lovely sound. It’s a wonderful thing to be very, very proud of a whole bunch of students for listening, co-operating, being patient with themselves and each other in order to make beautiful sounds. At the moment the concentration is on putting the fingers in the correct fingering patterns, and pressing the fingers into the holes.  And, of course, putting the left hand at the top.

The 3/4F class have played some amazing recorder in their session of music last Friday. Well done!

So much to learn all at once!!

Year 5 and 6 students have survived disasters and are making their way back home, musically of course. It’s been lots of fun trying a wide variety of new and old instruments, exploring sounds which might be useful to tell their stories musically.  The focus this week has been on creating storyboards.
