Mayoral Breakfast

Recently our College Captains Mitchell Davoren and Millie Owen, along with Kennedy House Captain Ella Stanford attended the Mayoral Breakfast at the Wagga City Council Chambers.

The focus of the morning was the upcoming Local Government Council elections and Mayor Conkey along with other Council members were keen to hear what young people expect from their leaders and the issues that are important to them.

Young leaders from all of Wagga’s High Schools were in attendance, and shared a broad range of concerns they have as young people in the city, and where they believe Council should direct their attention.

Ideas included the environment and sustainability, mental health and available resources for those in need, and activities for young people that can help with socialising and building community.

Mayor Conkey believes that our young people need to be involved in council conversations that lead to decision making which directly impacts on them, and is keen to ensure all those over the age of 18 are aware of their responsibility to register and vote. Families are encouraged to research the City Council Elections here.

Young Endeavour Youth Scheme

Applications are now open for 2021 youth development voyages in STS Young Endeavour, Australia’s National Sail Training Ship. Youth aged 16-23 are invited to apply for the new 2021 voyage dates, sailing from May – December in New South Wales, Queensland and Victorian waters.

Since 1988 over 14,000 young Australians from across Australia have sailed in Young Endeavour, taking part in the inspiring youth development experience that helps participants develop self-awareness and confidence, and gives them an opportunity to grow their teamwork and leadership skills through sail training and self-development activities.

During each voyage the ship embarks a crew of young Australians who will learn the skills to sail a square-rigged tall ship, including how to navigate, keep watch, cook in the gallery, set and furl sails, climb the 30 metre mast, and take the helm. They will live ‘between decks’ with fellow youth crew from across Australia, and will be encouraged to pursue personal and team goals and challenges.

Life Choices Program

On Tuesday Year 9 and 10 students were involved in the Life Choices Program presented by Australian race car driver, Andrew ‘Fishtail’ Fisher for Jesus Racing.

Andrew is a successful Race Driver and businessman.  He races at speeds of up to 300km/hr and has raced V8 Utes, V8 Supercars and is currently racing the most famous car in Australian Motoring history, an XYGT, in touring Car Masters.

Andrew shared his remarkable story of courage and making difficult choices with Years 9 and 10.  He talked about the importance of gratitude and having values that promote happiness.  He spoke of faith and having the courage to be the person you are no matter who is around you and what their judgement may be.  Life can throw curve balls, but we can’t afford to be passive.

It’s your life and it’s up to you to make it count.
