PATHWAYS / CAREERS

MS SALLY LOONEY AND MS BRENDA BRADY - PATHWAYS TEAM

We will both be available at the Subject Expo on Wednesday, May 26th and welcome both parents and students to stop by for a chat.  We will have representatives from the Defence Force and SuniTAFE at our stand to answer any questions.

Prior to the Expo, we will be talking to students going into Year 9 and 10 in 2022 about the process of choosing elective subjects, as well as reminding students going into VCE what the process is for them.

Registration for the UCAT ANZ close on Monday, May 17th

Some Universities require students to sit the UCAT as part of  Medicine and Dentistry course pre-requisites. The test helps Universities select applicants with appropriate abilities and professional behaviours required for new Doctors and Dentists.  More information is available at https://www.ucat.edu.au

The Defence Force GAP year is a fantastic opportunity not only to experience what a career in the Navy, Army or Air Force could be like, but to have a year full of adventure, new friends, new skills, leadership and travel. There is no commitment to join the defence force at the end of the year.

There are numerous roles to choose from in a wide range of areas:

Go to www.defencejobs.gov.au/students-and-education/gap-year to find out more and apply.

Defying the Drift  (DtD)

We are encouraging any students in Year 10 to Year 12 who are considering a career or have an interest in Agriculture to consider applying for this program which will be held in the September school holidays at Longerenong College.  This three-day residential program will give participants an opportunity to hear about great professional, entrepreneurial and trade careers that are available in the agriculture industry.

Sponsorship is available for students from the local Rotary Clubs. Interested students are asked to contact Brenda for more information and an application form.

Year 10 Pathway Classes

At the start of this term, we started the Coaching Young People for Success.  This is a great ‘hands on’ program that encourages students to look at future career possibilities based on their interest, what their ideal life could look like, as well as starting to plan by making short term, medium and long term goals.

We are working closely with 10B to help finalise their Work Experience placements in the last week of Term 2.    Placements in schools, Allied Health, Agriculture, Art/Design and a variety of trades have started to be organised with students very grateful for the opportunity to take part.
