Ordinary Time - The longest season in the Liturgical Calendar

After the 50 days of our Easter Season, which ended at Pentecost, we have now entered into Ordinary Time in the liturgical calendar.

The first Sunday after Pentecost is Trinity Sunday. The Holy Trinity gives us fullness in Christ — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The next Sunday is Corpus Christi, which commemorates the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist.

The liturgical colour for Ordinary Time is green; a colour of life and hope, and is represented in our classrooms with green cloths on the prayer tables. Ordinary comes from the Latin term ordinalis, meaning ‘numbered’ or ‘ruled’. Ordinary Time refers to the time in the Church’s liturgical year that is in between the seasons of Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas and lasts for 33-34 weeks depending on when the feast days fall. It is the time when we celebrate our daily call to Jesus and grow quietly in our faith.
