School Environmental Group

Our school has well established vegetable beds, numerous compost bins and worm farms as well as a fully decked out hand made chicken coop to house five happy chickens who have been hand raised by students at Simon’s. Each year we continue to develop the garden space.

Guiding our Environmental Group are our four wonderful Year 6 Environmental leaders. Our Environmental Leaders Amelie, Brady, Shamaya and Matthew work closely with Mrs Solari and I.

We have a number of exciting projects running this year such as Bread Tags for Wheelchairs and Nude Food Thursday. Later in Term 3 we will be working on a LITSTEM project alongside other local catholic schools, so watch this space!

You may not realise but everyday our School Environmental Leaders are busy caring for our five beautiful but cheeky chickens that help create rich compost and produce yummy eggs.

The Year 6 Leaders also care and maintain our six large raised vegetable beds, compost bins and worm farms. Our school collects food scraps daily from all of our twenty- six classrooms and we use these food scraps to create compost.

A few weeks ago the Environmental team were busy doing some maintenance work on our garden space. New Autumn vegetable seedlings were planted, weeds were removed, compost bins made rodent proof and homemade compost was moved into the vegetable beds.

A big thank you to our four hard working Year 6 Environmental Leaders and volunteers for all your hard work in maintaining our garden space.
