Year 10

Term 3 has presented us with the challenge of remote learning version 2.0. The feedback from last term has guided our processes this time. So far, it has resulted in a positive response from the students. They are more engaged with their learning and communicating more often with their teachers. We have adjusted the curriculum to meet the demands of remote learning as well as balancing the wellbeing of the students.

We know there will be several challenges as we progress through this term. One of the challenges will be supporting your son’s wellbeing. To support him through these challenges, he will be completing the COVID-19 Chilled and Considerate Program in PSE. The program is a school-based mental health support program designed to help him to comprehend his vulnerability to unhelpful reactions arising from COVID-19 fears.

The program is designed to build resilience in students, teachers and families by showing when and how uncertainty would set someone off, and learning how to slow down instead of responding with anger. There are 5 lessons in the program. Each includes PowerPoint presentations and student workbooks. The students have been asked to complete 1 lesson a week during their timetabled PSE lesson.

Preparations for transition continue

The formal subject selection interviews will take place on Tuesday, 1 September. Staff from St James and St Bede’s College will meet with students and parents to discuss subject selections and pathway options for next year. Students not attending St Bede’s are welcome to book an interview. Students attending De La Salle College will have subject selection interviews later this year. At this stage, we will conduct the interviews remotely. We will notify you with further details in early August, including advice for booking times on PAM.

Like the boys, I am looking forward to a return to ‘normal’ classes at some stage this year. In the meantime, we will continue to support them as they prepare for Year 11 and beyond. Should you have any questions regarding the transition process, or the remote learning program, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or the Year 10 Homeroom Teachers. Stay safe and well.
