Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and Healthway Go for 2&5 poster competition!

Western Australian children from Kindergarten to Year 10 are invited to colour or create an original poster artwork for our new production, BeanstalkBeanstalk is the retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk from the point of view of the giant. Our version of this much-loved tale delves into the world of giants, cloud farming and magical gardening. It’s a humorous story that will have you thinking about what it means to be seen in a negative light based purely on external appearances and how we can all become more accepting and compassionate towards one another! The style of puppetry explored in Beanstalk  is Object Theatre.

What is Object Theatre? It’s a branch of puppetry which uses found objects (in our case fruit, vegetables and a bread roll) to create and tell a story. Everyday objects, become characters or are transformed into other things, requiring the skill of the performer and the imagination of the audience for its success.

In Beanstalk, the giant  is played by a performer and Jack is played by a knotted bread roll! All other characters are represented by a variety of fruit and vegetables. Beanstalk will have its world premiere in January 2021 before traveling to regional Western Australia for our Go for 2&5 Regional Schools Tour. There are three categories for different age groups with the younger children invited to colour in a poster (attached or downloadable on our website) and the older ages groups invited to create an original artwork.

Category 1: Kindergarten - Year 2

Category 2: Year 3 - Year 6

Category 3: Year 7 - Year 10

Entries need to be uploaded via the online entry form by 4:00pm (AWST) 04 September 2020. Judges will select three winning entries from each category.   Prizes up for grabs include a Go for 2&5 prize pack and 4 tickets to be one of the first in Perth to see Beanstalk at Spare Parts Puppet Theatre in Fremantle! There are also class prizes including free workshops and up to 30 performance tickets!
