Library News

This term has been another busy one in the ASC library! Please see some of the exciting events happening below.

Game Changer Challenge

On Thursday 19th May 5 teams of Game Changers spent the day completing a design sprint to find solutions to the problem 'We have a global challenge of ensuring healthy lives for all, at all ages'. Teams then spent many lessons over the next fortnight working on their 90 second video submission and a 300-word report outlining their solutions. To celebrate the completion of the first stage of the challenge, the library hosted a film premiere where teams presented their videos to the audience.

Well done Game Changers, we look forward to hearing if you are selected to participate in the next stage.

Chess

The ASC Chess team have been going from strength to strength in the NSW Junior Chess League school's competition. Round two saw them play St Mary's Catholic College from Gunnedah where they walked away with a 4-0 win. Round three will see us host O'Connor Catholic College at ASC.

Tuesday Chess club has become quite popular to the point where we have even run out of boards on occasion! We think this is fantastic and are placing our order for new boards to ensure we have plenty of room for new chess enthusiasts. If you are interested, Chess club meets every Tuesday at lunch.

Harry Potter Day is Coming!

Mark it in your diary - Friday 24th June is Harry Potter Day at ASC! To celebrate 25 years of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, ASC will host the following activities:

  • Whole school dress up day
  • Fan fiction writing competition
  • Chocolate Frog Card scavenger hunt
  • House group Quidditch (weather permitting)

If you would like to get involved in any of these activities, speak to the library staff for details.

Board games & reading have been a popular past time in the library.

The library was fortunate enough to host an insightful talk from acclaimed author & illustrator, Sami Bayly, as part of the Children's Literature Festival. Sami spoke of her inspiration for her work & stepped students through the basics of illustration. If you're unfamiliar with Sami's work you can see more on her website http://www.samibayly.com/
