A very big congratulations goes to Taylor Chick-Sauer Yr 8 at ASC.

ASC Equestrian News

Taylor Chick –Sauer competed at the State Equestrian expo in Coonabarrabran earlier this month. Taylor was riding her 15.1 Stockhorse bay gelding with a star.

She has been riding him for a year.

She was awarded Reserve Champion for highest point score 13 years. This is a huge achievement given the number of competitors at the event.

During the week Taylor won first place in the Combined Training and the Dressage and received Champion in Dressage.

Taylor enjoyed the Stock Horse Events and came 2nd in the Working Horse Challenge, pictured below, where riders were set challenges including a hand-gallop and roll-backs

A highlight for Taylor was competing in, and winning, the Team of Four event, pictured below. In this event four riders and horses move through a workout in unison.

For Taylor the biggest challenges were getting up in the morning before the sun at minus 1 degree  and the foot deep mud.

Coming up next are the shows at the end of year, dressage days and Nationals later in the year.

Taylor would like to send a huge thanks to Mum for helping and Grandma for driving out there.

Congratulations on a great week.

The NSW Senior State Age netball title were held over the June long weekend in Sydney.

These titles are in the Under 15 and under 17’s age groups and ASC students Bess Dunbar and Skye Vaughan represented Armidale.  The Junior state titles will be held the first weekend in July with Chloe Brennan and Narlee Bird challenging themselves against the states best in the Under 12’s, 13’s and 14’s age groups. All four girls have trained hard since the beginning of the year and have developed skills and friendships as well. We wish them all the best.

A huge congratulations goes to the open boys and girls volleyball teams, who are now regional champions.

Both teams won at the North West gala day that was held on Tuesday 7th June. These teams will now compete at the CHS State Finals in Term 3.

Hey everyone!

My name is Catalina Cox, you might have seen me around school. I’m in year 11, but instead of doing my HSC at ASC next year, I will soon be moving overseas and finishing high school there at an international boarding school called UWC USA (It’s in the USA, in New Mexico).

UWC stands for United World Colleges, a not-for-profit organisation with 18 colleges worldwide with a mission to “make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future”. I will be doing the IB, the International Baccalaureate, which is a different sort of high school qualification. UWC and the IB focuses on a rounded education, learning with both academics, but also getting out there and experiencing the world through creativity, activity and service. At UWC USA, there are many hiking trips, music programs and volunteering opportunities, but every one of the 18 colleges is unique and has different opportunities.

The UWC program has an international focus. This year, I am the ONLY Australian to go to UWC USA with other students selected from 90+ other countries. UWC is an amazing opportunity to learn about so many other cultures, and live with people from all over the world!

While I’m very much looking forward to the trip and the challenge, I will also be sad to leave ASC, my friends and the teachers who have encouraged and supported me over the years.

I applied to the school in October last year - when I was in year 10. Applications for places and scholarships for the class of 2025 are opening soon, and I encourage everyone to apply. People can apply if they are 16 or 17 years of age on the 1st of September in the starting year. You can find more information about UWC and the Australian selection process here: https://www.au.uwc.org/ , or email me at catalina.cox@education.nsw.gov.au if you’re interested in more info!

North West Cross Country

Several ASC students traveled to Coolah to participate in North West Cross Country. A massive congratulations to those who made it through to state!

ASC Zhiyan Almito Yr 9...

A very big congratulations goes to Zhiyan Almito who has received the Harding Miller

 Education Foundation Scholarship.

• Online IT support

• High-speed internet

• $2500 worth of online or face to face tutoring

• Online homework help

• Prepaid expense cards for essential school needs such as uniforms, textbooks, and school excursions

Each scholar is allocated a personal coach who supports and guides them through the four years of the program. They have over 80 volunteer coaches working with them. Many have experience in the education sector and all of them are committed to helping the girls excel.

Fantastic achievement Zhiyan!

Youthrock Finals…

A very big congratulations goes to Archie Todd & Zoe Logan both in year 11 at ASC. Both students have made it through to the Youthrock finals

Youthrock is a band competition held annually in Sydney. Bands who write original songs enter via video submission and if they are successful there are 4 rounds of semifinals before the finals.

If they are successful in the semifinals they then get an opportunity to have their songs recorded professionally in a studio.

This year, the semifinals are from the 27th - 30th July, with the finals being the 31st July.

We would like to wish Archie & Zoe all the very best.

Awesome achievement.
