Around The School

Easter Message: based on 1 Corinthians 15:1-22.

My Easter message centres around the Easter egg, and it isn’t just one message, but three. Three important messages or lessons that we can learn about Jesus’ resurrection from this Easter egg.

First let’s look at the shape. What shape is it? (Egg shape)

Next we need to look at the pattern. What pattern can you see? (Rock pattern)

Finally we need to know what is inside. What is inside? (Empty inside)

I want the rock pattern to remind you of the tomb that Jesus was buried in and the stone that that was used like a door to close and seal the tomb. This reminds us that Jesus died and was buried. We can see this in verse _ “Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say. He was buried”. Jesus’ death means that the punishment for our sin has been taken by Jesus. His sacrifice removes our guilt and is the payment that we can never make. The Bible tells us that our good deeds cannot remove our sin – we need Jesus to do that. What do I want the rock pattern to reminds us of?

I want the empty inside to remind you of the empty tomb. The tomb was empty because Jesus was alive. It reminds us that Jesus was alive and that he appeared to many people. We see this in verse _ “three days later he was raised to life, as the Scriptures say. Christ appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After this, he appeared to more than five hundred other followers.” Jesus’ resurrection demonstrates that his sacrifice was sufficient. Since punishment for sin had been paid, everyone who puts their faith in Jesus can have their sin forgiven. What do I want the empty inside to remind us of?

I want the egg shape to remind you of new life. Jesus’ resurrection means that we too can have new life. We see this in verse _ “Christ has been raised to life! And he makes us certain that others will also be raised to life.” Through faith in Jesus our sins are forgiven and through the Holy Spirit we are given new life. The new life of living God’s way now and the assurance of eternal life with God in heaven. What do I want the egg shape to remind you of?

The Easter story is one of Good News, of Hope and of New Life. Maybe you can share this message with family and friends on Easter morning when you give and receive Easter eggs. And as you celebrate that Christ is Risen!

Concluding Crime Fiction

This term in Year 10 Extension English students sunk their teeth into Crime Fiction. After exploring the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and the Manor House murder mysteries of Agatha Christie, students utilised their crime solving smarts to identify Colonel Mustard (in the kitchen with the rope).

Congratulations, Paddy and Alysha!

Paddy Eeles has won an Australian National title in his Grade. He shot 161 straight targets before finally missing, culminating in him wining the national championship in B grade double barrel. What a massive achievement under mental and physical pressure!

Meanwhile, quiet achiever Alysha Toohill was one of only 10 applicants selected for flight training school to get her pilots license this year! Alysha is in the airforce cadets and after a very grueling application process through the Australian Airforce cadets for acceptance into a flight training school was selected last year. The process involved multiple panel interviews, an aviation exam and recommendation from her squadron commanding officer.

Alysha was also selected for promotion camp in January and will be ranked Corporal Toohill! Congratulations, Alysha - what inspiring commitment and dedication!

Rockin' Lunch Time!

Our music classes entertained the school at lunchtime on Thursday. The Year 9 class band performed 'I Love Rock'n'Roll' by Joan Jett. The Year 10 class performed a piece from the video game 'The Legend of Zelda'.  The Year 11/12 music class played 'Don't Stop Believin'.

Cows Creates Careers

This semester the Year 10 Agriculture class is participating in the COWS CREATES CAREERS inter-school competition.  As part of this, the Year 10 students have reared two calves at school and educated some primary students about the signs of healthy calves. Recently, an excursion to Jalna Biodynamic Dairy Farm was most informative and we thank volunteer parent Michelle Jettner for her assistance on this trip.  Stay tuned for updates from students about Cows Creates Careers in the coming weeks.

Science around the school

5A Science class used bromothymol blue indicator to test for the presence of CO2.

5B Science class used an indicator to find evidence that yeast IS a living thing!

6B Science class tested the viscosity of various liquids.

VET Tourism Excursion to the Port of Echuca

Today the Year 10 and 11 VET Tourism students became tourist in their own town as they learnt about the different tourist activities in the area. The day started with a Tour of the Discovery Center where students learn more about the history of Echuca along with the importance of tourism to our area. They then experienced a Paddle Steamer ride on the Pevensey followed by a gist to the Echuca Moama Tourism Centre. Here they were privileged to have a talk with Kathryn Mckenzie from CEO of Echuca Moama Tourism, who shared with the students information on the impact of COVID on Tourism in the area, as well as some innovations in marketing to attract new tourist to our area, along with lots of other interesting statistics. Students also got to learn about a couple of other activities in the area, talking with Green Pedal Cycles and Twisted Science about the activities they offer. Finally everyone got to enjoy some of the great food in our town. Overall a great day was had any all Tourism students, who found it a stimulating way to end to term.
