Another huge congratulations again to not only age champions but all participants of the athletics day. My gratitude is greatly extended to all the staff and the secondary and primary student helpers who assisted in helping the day run as smoothly and successful as possible. I hope all students and staff had an enjoyable day and were able to make new and healthy connections with the Moama Anglican Grammar community. We now look forward to Cross Country which is coming up in Week 1 of Term 2.

Secondary Athletics Carnival Student Report

By Cara Haley and Shepherd Jose

With the wind in our ears the secondary athletics carnival started with a blast from the starter gun signaling the start of the 1500 metre race. On April 1st 2022, despite being April Fools Day, students demonstrated a strong spirit of friendly competition with team mates supporting and cheering on their peers. Students ran, jumped and threw with enthusiasm, competing for their designated houses with the year 12’s showcasing a range of costumes we have never seen before.

You can’t help imagine what it must have been like for the athletes in Ancient Greece who introduced the same events we compete in today, but I am grateful that some events have been refined such as Long jump, which originally involved the athletes carrying weights in each hand. These were swung forward on take-off and released in the middle of the jump in a bid to increase momentum.

On behalf of the student body we would like to extend our thanks to the Physical Education Department and to all staff, Year 6 helpers and parents who contributed to the smooth running of this carnival.  Lastly a big congratulations to all the students who participated in the numerous events and good luck to those moving onto the next stage of inter-school competition.
