Year 7: Ancient Civilisation Day

Our Year 7 classes gathered this week to share all they've been learning about their chosen Ancient Civilisation. Interesting and fun facts about Rome, Greece and Egypt were enjoyed through presentations, maps, dioramas, and even costume as students taught other students what they had learned through their studies!

FORE! Tunate

By Allen Dickson – Enrichment Coordinator (and Proud Uncle)

Last week, five of our aspiring young golfers took part in the CSEN Golf Tournament.

This event happens each year… and it only particularly came to my attention this year because my nephew – Brock M in Year 8 – took part.

Our Senior Boys team (Oskar S, Joel D, Owen B & Geordie D) all finished in the Top 20. Brock M was our highest placegetter, finishing 5th in the Junior Boys, and has the potential to progress to the State Independent Schools Final at the end of May.

It got me thinking about just how fortunate we are with the opportunities that CSEN provides – and not just in the well-known sporting arena either.

Yes, there is footy, netball, basketball, athletics and swimming. But did you know that our students have the opportunity to play other, less well-known sports? We have the opportunity for students to represent BHCS in golf, badminton and even lawn bowls!

Then there are the CSEN cultural events – Chess, Theatresports, Play In A Day, Word Play, Masterminds, Masterchef and this year sees the launch of the inaugural CSEN Robotics Competition.

We are so fortunate that our students have so many avenues to mix with other like-minded students from around Victoria… and how fantastic that CSEN provides each student with a chance to shine.

Special thanks to Karen Davidson and the CSEN coordinators in all the schools who make this opportunity a reality.

YEAR 11 Careers Expo

By Careers Department

Year 11 students took a trip to the Caulfield racecourse for the VCE and Careers Expo on Friday. This expo is the largest of its kind so our students had the opportunity to speak to many Tertiary educators about their ideas and plans.

Also to present were the Defence force, Police force, Fire department and Ambulance, all with information on how to secure employment within these departments. Students could speak with recruiters for Surveying companies, Coles, McDonalds and many more employers. There were also GAP year providers and Student Travel organisations.

We hope the trip was an encouragement and has spurred our students on to continue planning the start of their journey beyond BHCS.
