Prep

Last Thursday the Year Prep and Year One students went for a walk around Preston as part of our Inquiry unit on Autumn! We walked for approximately 45 minutes and noticed the trees, leaves and temperature. We walked to the Preston Library where we found a small park before heading back to school. We collected leaves on our journey which then inspired our Writing session after we got back to school. We are planning to go out for another walk after the holidays to see even more of 'Autumn' around us!

Year 1

The Year 1’s have recently learnt all about the days of the week, the months of the year and the four seasons that we see throughout the year. We have been using calendars, singing lots of songs and taking nature walks to further their learning and to assist the students to understand the world around them.

It has been fantastic to see the students making connections between themselves and the days of the week, the months of the year and the four seasons of Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. Georgia made a connection between her birthday month and the seasons, saying “my birthday is in July, my birthday is in Winter!”  The Year 1's have also been working hard to remember that the start of the week is Sunday and the start of the school week is Monday! It has been great to hear singing the ‘Days of the Week’ song and the ‘Months of the Year’ song . The videos have been attached below if you would like to sing these songs at home.

Jump Rope For Heart

During P.E, the Year 2s have continued to practice their skipping, in an attempt to raise more funds for the Jump Rope For Heart Foundation. They have all improved tremendously!

Below, Raffaele is showing us three steps to follow when attempting to skip.

1. Put on your Batman cape.
2. Take off your Batman cape.
3. Jump!

Earth and Space

Earlier this week, the Year 2 and Year 3/4 students were able to select and attend one of three presentation workshops; a PowerPoint/Slides presentation, a poster presentation or a presentation in diorama form. The students are now very eager to begin their own project and present to their peers next Thursday. We will also be sharing their final presentations with you next week via this newsletter.

Art Time

This week in Art, the students have been preparing palms to use during the whole school Holy Week reenactment of Palm Sunday.

Year 3/4

Playing the Piano with Marshmallows

Jasmine - Adam and I played the hot cross bun song using marshmallows and the makey makey and it made us feel excited.

Katelin and Jacob - today we made music with a chromebook and a makey makey. We did this by using wires and marshmallows which were the conductors. We found out that to continue the circuit we had to touch each others skin, but if we touched the shirt it didn’t work. Making music made us feel happy and some of us discovered a new song on the piano.

Roman - It was really fun playing the piano with the marshmallows and the makey makey. I was making up my own songs and having a good time.

Allie - Harper and I had a lot of fun playing hot cross buns using marshmallows and the makey makey.

SCIENCE EXPO

Today our young students became young scientists, performing a range of experiments across all year levels. This is what they learnt....

Brian, team captain, explaining the experiment to his group.
Caitlin's group observing the oil, water and food colouring reacting.
Amelia pouring, Jaxon writing.

Jaxon ~ I learnt that if you mix oil, water and food colouring together, it looks like an explosion. This is because the particles are separating because of their density.

Amelia ~ I learnt that if you put oil in water, the oil floats above the water because the chemical reaction between the oil and the water separates it.

Zane ~ the candle and water experiment taught me that the oxygen in the glass draws the water in from the outside and the water level rises.
