Head of Students News

Mr Peter Serone

Welcome back to all families for Term 2, which is traditionally a very busy term for all involving academics; a vast number of students and their parents are involved in sports and co-curricular activities and community events such as the annual walkathon and the Tower Art Show. Below are some reminders and information for the early part of the term.

Winter uniform

Winter uniform is worn in Terms 2 and 3 including long sleeve grey shirt (Years 5-10) or long sleeve blue shirt (Years 11 and 12), tie, grey shorts with long College grey socks or trousers with dark grey, black or College bumblebee socks.

Formal Hat

Formal hat is required to be worn to and from school for Years 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11.  Students in Years 6 and 8 will now be required to wear the formal hat to and from school from the beginning of Term 2.  The cost of the hats has been reduced for Terms 1, 2 and 3 in 2022 by 20% to $76 in order to support parents in purchasing this uniform item.  The College blue broadbrim hat may be worn by all students during lunch breaks.

Senior Blazer

Due to international shipping issues, the incoming shipment of senior blazers has been delayed leaving sizes S through to 2XL out of stock in the Uniform Shop. Unfortunately, there is no confirmed arrival date for this shipment.  Please keep an eye on the College app, as a notification will be posted when all blazers are back in stock.  If students are unable to get a blazer for the beginning of Term 2 due to lack of supply, parents and guardians are asked to write a note in the student’s diary explaining this.  Until the new stock arrives, these students will be excused from wearing a blazer when they would ordinarily be expected to at certain College events and activities. The College thanks parents for their patience with this situation.

Primary Grey Shirt

The income shipment of size J8 grey long sleeve academic shirts has been delayed leaving this size out of stock in the Uniform Shop. Unfortunately, there is no confirmed arrival date for this shipment.  Please keep an eye on the College app, as a notification will be posted when this size is back in stock.  If students are unable to get a long sleeve shirt for the beginning of Term 2 due to lack of supply, parents and guardians are asked to write a note in the student’s diary explaining this.  Until the new stock arrives, these students will be required to wear their short sleeve academic summer shirt to school.  The College thanks parents for their patience with this situation.

The Uniform Shop opening hours for the first week of Term 2 are:

Tuesday 19 April               11:00 am to 4:00 pm

Wednesday 20 April         7:30 am to 4:30 pm

Thursday 21 April             7:30 am to 12:30 pm

Friday 22 April                   7:30 am to 12:30 pm

All students should have made time to address these winter uniform requirements including matters of grooming including haircuts, before the end of the holidays. The College appreciates the support of families in uniform matters.

Photo Day this Thursday

This Thursday is the College photo day for pastoral group and individual photos, including the Year 12 group photo.  There is also a small number of co-curricular photos also being taken on Thursday. Please check the app for the full photo schedule.

A reminder for all Year 12’s to assemble in the morning at the grandstand and not to go to pastoral group on Thursday morning.

All students are to be presented looking their best in winter uniform (this includes blazers for Years 11 and 12), well groomed and clean shaven. Any student with a haircut that does not meet College expectations will not be allowed to have photos taken and be sent home from the Tower reception to have their hair cut (please refer to page 21 of the student diary).  We are aware that the Uniform Shop is not fully stocked and the College will have spare shirts and blazers available for photos.

Anzac March

Anzac Day falls on Monday 25 April (Week 2, Term 2).  The traditional march will take place with all students invited to attend. The march starts at 7:30am from Betheden Terrace, Ashgrove and proceeds outbound on Waterworks Road to Ashgrove Memorial Park.

We will gather behind St Finbarr’s Catholic Church at 7:15 am. The ceremony commences at 7:45 am and runs for approximately one hour.

I'd like to remind students that they are to wear their full winter uniform, ensuring it is clean and presentable.  Students are not required to wear their hats for the march but may carry them and wear them for sun safety during the service. Sunscreen will be available for the boys to use, but please ensure your sons have had an adequate breakfast and carry a water bottle.

We also encourage all other boys to attend their local services throughout Brisbane and

beyond in their full and perfectly worn College winter uniform. Marist boys are encouraged to march with their special family medals and to lay a wreath where appropriate. Let us make sure that the Marist spirit continues to reflect upon and remember those brave men and women who have and will serve our country.
