Home Reading

Home reading has commenced for Kindergarten which is very exciting. It has also recommenced for Year 1 through to Year 6. Thank you to all students and parents who have established positive routines to ensure home reading is being completed from Monday to Thursday with book titles being recorded each night in the Home Reading Logs or student diaries (Year 6). These are then returned to school on a Friday so teachers can monitor the reading and text selection.

Did you know that researchers discovered that reading for 20 minutes a day means a student will read about 1.8 million words a year? This highlights the importance of daily reading, so your support is greatly appreciated and will benefit your child.

Kindergarten Reading

It has been wonderful to see parents, carers and grandparents involved in Kindergarten reading! We thank those who are able to support learning in this way for their generosity of time, and also for parents and carers who support their child’s reading at home. Together we work in partnership to foster a lifelong love of reading and to support the development of reading skills!

Haircuts

Thank you to those parents who have made sure that their children have returned to school this term with appropriate haircuts. Please note our policy from the School Handbook below:

Hair

Students are required to wear their hair in a neat and tidy manner.

  • Haircuts should be of an even grade.
  • Hair should be well brushed and combed.
  • Hair will not be in such a condition as to invite comment.
  • Long hair is to be tied back or plaited, off the face and should not extend to cover the eyes. Hair longer than collar length should be tied back.
  • Navy blue headbands, ribbons and scrunchies are to be worn in the hair.

BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Extreme styles, bleaching, colouring or dyeing of hair are not permitted.
  • Gel, mousse and hair spray or other substances should not be used.
  • There will be no undercuts, steps or shaved lines within the hair.
  • Nothing shorter than a Number 2 comb is acceptable.
  • Students who do not abide by the haircut requirements will be asked to fix the identified problem.

Teachers will be in contact with you if your child's haircut does not meet the requirements as outlined in this policy.

Pupil Free Day

On Monday 16 May teachers will engage in a day of professional learning on the teaching of student writing. Students do not attend school on this day.

Lego Call Out

We would like to set up some passive play opportunities for students in Term 2.

In order to do this, we are sourcing materials that could be used. If you have any lego sets or board games that are not being used at home anymore we would love to take them off your hands.

Winter School Uniform

Students will begin wearing the winter uniform from Monday 9 May (after Mother's Day).  Parents may use discretion in the 2 weeks prior or following the summer to winter change over date should the weather be too cold or too hot.

Please note that the sports jacket should only be worn with the sports uniform except for exceptionally cold days when it may be worn over the sloppy-joe.

The expectations for the school uniform are outlined in the School Handbook. You may also visit Lowes Schools Online.

Lost Uniform Items

Parents are asked to check their child's hats and sports jackets to ensure they belong to your child. If you have another child's item please return it to the school.

All uniform items should be labeled with your child's name as this substantially increases the chances of the item being returned.

Lost Property

Have you lost something?

We have a few items here at the office that have lost their owner.  Please come to the school office to collect.
