Facilities Updates

Modernising CSPS; Financial announcement

As a result of significant work by current and past school leadership and School Council, an article in the Star Community paper was initiated by School Council President Jodi Price.

As result of such persistence by Jodi, Jude Perera's office then announced three financial supports to CSPS.  School Council are currently composing a letter of response to Jude Perera.

  • $100000 for works to upgrade and modernise ageing facilities, including fix old and damaged pipes.
  • Construction of new access ramps for two of its relocatable buildings through the Accessible Buildings Program, with work expected to start soon and the ramps completed in the next 8-10 weeks.
  • $117000 of maintenance funding to fix ageing toilets and remove damaged and dangerous trees, with work already underway.  The toilet reinstatement includes an industrial strength clean, mould remediation, ceiling and roof works and installation of new flooring and water saving tapes.

Grand Opening - student toilets

With the utmost pride and satisfaction, I am happy to announce the opening of our newly reburbished student toilet block as of Monday, 14th May.  Significant work has been completed including a new ceiling, skylights, painting of the ceiling and walls and new expoxy floor surface.  In addition, a thorough industrial clean of every nook and cranny has been conducted.  Some of the finances has been covered by DET with some local funds required (note: new cisterns and toilets seats for all cubicles were installed January 2018).  It is imperative that we instil high expectations on students in their usage and pride including:

  • Using the toilets and urinals for the intending purpose (including no standing on the toilets seats).
  • Flushing only toilet paper not sticks, stones, lunchboxes or any item that is that is not toilet friendly.

Not throwing paper towel or toilet paper onto the ceiling or throwing/spraying soap on any surface.

  • Flushing the urinal after each use.
  • Not writing on any toilets, doors, walls, urinals or mirrors.
  • Reporting any incidences of misuse immediately to classroom teachers (who will strictly monitoring student access).

Please see below a before and after photo of the works.

We appreciate all families in having a conversation with their children about such expectations.  All reported incidences, with supported evidence, will incur a minimum of an after school detention.  We have high expectations at CSPS.

Septic System

We have been officially informed that the upgrade of the current Septic system will commence mid May (with an approximate 2 month Scope of Works).  This will include a removal of the existing Water Treatment Plant and subsequent storage to a new under ground system where the bike ranks currently lay.  The delay in commencement has been a most worthwhile deliberation between authorities,to ensure we have the best upgrade to our school.  The upgrade has been valiantly fought for a number of years and I thank parents and staff, past and present, for their support in this matter.  Any specific information you require, please do not hesitate to contact myself or members of School Council.

Tree removal complete

Tree pruning and lobbing has been completed around the property of CSPS.  The mulch and tree pieces have been maximised on (as well as donations to the community).  I wonder what we can create as Nature playground areas with the tree parts at our next Working Bee on Saturday, 18 June.

Ramp update

The process in relation to installation of ramps to the decking area commenced November 2017.  DET has informed CSPS that ramp installation has gone to tender, which is a two week process, with a tentative commencement in Week 6-7, Term 2.  Such works is crucial to CSPS to ensure smooth educational program delivery.  I will continue to keep the CSPS community, and families specifically affected, the progress with this project.
