HOME LEARNING

We have been getting out each day for bike rides/dog walks with our whippets Beau & Arrow, which is helping to keep us active. We have been playing lots of different games on the trampoline, poison ball being one of our favourites. Raiden loves playing games so we have been playing plenty of board and card games as a family. Raiden has also been making camping areas and forts around the house for him and the dogs to play in.

We have been enjoying our home learning; we start the day early having breakfast and playing some games as a family. We try to check our morning greeting before 9am and have a look at what is on for the day. Raiden loves the morning greeting and getting to see Miss Rebecca, it helps him to stay connected. We complete the morning greeting first then look at all of the other tasks for the day. Raiden chooses in which order he would like to do the tasks, this gives him ownership over his work and means there aren't as many complaints about what has to be done and when. We complete one or two tasks depending on how long they take then we have a snack and move our bodies or play games, then it's back to another task before lunch time. Often after lunch we only have one or two tasks left to do and then we will walk the dogs (if we didn't get time before 9am) or jump on the trampoline/play games/swing on the swings/read books etc.

LEARNING STRATEGIES

Home learning has been challenging in our house due to me (mum) working at the same time. Strategies have included:

- Letting India sleep in so I can get a lot of work done

- Lots of activities like games, cooking etc that foster learning but are not necessarily a part of the class schedule

- And trying not to be too hard on ourselves

THRIFTY LEARNING

Maya and Gaspar have been working hard, building a skatepark in the courtyard with wood found in the neighbourhood. Maya has built a bird house and is busy painting it now. They have been sleeping in a tent in the Lounge on the weekend.

FAMILY MOMENTS

We have had lots of fun during this unique time in our lives. We have been able to spend lots more time with our little sisters than we normally would because of being at school. We have had fun preparing our healthy morning tea each day and we have really enjoyed venturing out each day for a walk, particularly joining in on the ‘bear hunt’. But, we can’t wait to be able to get back to school to see our teachers and friends.

VARIOUS LEARNING

As we can all see our RPS families are embracing remote learning in all sorts of ways. Congratulations to all of them!

LEGO CHALLENGE

Lenny and May loved this 30 day Lego challenge that they did with Archie. They took turns choosing the challenge then they would take photos of their creations and send them to each other. We didn’t quite make the thirty days but it definitely provided hours and hours of quiet play.

The other great thing we’ve done is become penpals with two kids in Canada (my friend’s daughters). The children hand write letters to each other and we scan and send them. It’s been a great literacy activity and a wonderful way to learn about life in another country. The kids have felt comforted knowing children on the other side of the world are going through the same thing as them right now.
