Performing Arts News

Over the past fortnight, we have celebrated with performances at the Academic Assembly, Prospect Spring Fair and St Dominic’s Fete. This week we have also completed Stage Band auditions for ensembles who will travel to Mt Gambier for Generations in Jazz in May 2019.

Music Soiree

Thank you to all involved in the final Music Soiree on Monday evening. It was a standout event which featured not only the talents of our students, but also the strength of community among both students, staff, parents, instrumental tutors and friends. I was extremely proud of the way in which the students presented and performed throughout the evening.

Application to Instrumental Lessons and Immersion Programme 2019

Applications to Instrumental Lessons and the Woodwind and Brass Immersion Programme have been sent out and are also available on SEQTA, School Website and through Miss Anastasia Lambis alambis@bps.sa.edu.au. All continuing students must ensure that they have filled in forms to secure their places and help establish teaching for 2019.

Music Co-Curricular 2019

Music Co-curricular ensembles are being finalised following the Stage Band auditions. A reminder that all students who are involved in Specialist Music are required to participate in at least one co-curricular ensemble. Rehearsals take place before or after-school.

Farewells

I wish our Trumpet Tutor Hayden King all the very best in his new venture as part of the New Zealand Navy Band. Hayden has largely contributed to the Blackfriars Music Department and wider community. He has shown a strong commitment in his teaching, particularly this year tutoring multiple students through SACE Stage 2. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours. I have conducted interviews to fill this position for 2019 and will contact parents announcing his replacement.

It is also my opportunity to say a goodbye for the year as I start an exciting new journey ahead. I would like to thank all of the Blackfriars leadership, staff, students, parents and friends who have been such a large support, particularly all of the Music Staff and Students. It has been a blessing to work in such a warm environment and I look forward to returning to Blackfriars in 2020. Mr Simon Cobiac will announce my replacement for 2019 and any enquiries for the remainder of 2019 can be directed to Ms Anastasia Lambis or Mrs Libby Hunter.
