2019 BOOK WEEK

"READING IS MY SECRET POWER"

Reading for enjoyment. Reading for pleasure.

Let's make this year the year we take every opportunity to read because we want to.

Parents, I want our students to read what they enjoy.

At St Nicholas School Library I'am always updating the reads and I encourage recommendations from students which helps to keep the titles exciting and fresh.

In our school day this year we are going to make the most of every opportunity to delve into a book. Here are some examples: while we are waiting for our school photos, when we have spare time in the classroom, when our teacher has been called to the door to take a message etc. We are going to take every chance to whip out our book and let the story swallow us up.

Parents I challenge you to try this yourself: when you are waiting for your child at sport, music practise etc pull out your book and read.  If I am really into a great read I can be found in the kitchen one eye on the stove and the other on my book, yes that's the power of a good book, no I have not burned the dinner...yet.

Student Book Clubs

This term I am hoping to start some lunchtime book clubs where students who enjoy similair books and topics can gather for a chat and a share about their fav reads

What's on in 2019

Book Week, Book Fair, loads and loads of new books and so much more

Library Helpers

I am always needing help with book covering, so please email me or send a message with your child if you can help. No experience necessary, on the job training provided. You can cover here at school or do it at home.

BOOK CLUB

Scholastic bookclub brochures have come home and are now being returned in earnest.

By ordering from bookclub our school receives a commission which in turn is utilised to purchase resources for our students.

Online Reading

This year at St Nicholas School we have so many ways students can access books for information and reading for enjoyment. As the term progresses ask your child about this.

You Have To Be In It To Win It

At St Nicholas library there are often competitions going on.

Last year Yr 6 students had the opportunity to enter a competition organised by Scholastic Books.

Congratulations, to Alyssa Downey, Yr 6 (2018) who won the SPY KIT and JACK HEATH books in the LIARS Create-An-App Competition!
