Junior News

WOW.....WHAT A WEEK!!

We have had so much fun in Junior school this week!

  • Book Week dressup parade and whole school activity day.
  • Bedtime story day in our PJs.
  • Excursion to Como House and yes.....another dress up day!

What a week! We will all need a weekend off to recover! It has been so much fun and great to see the laughter, giggles and excitement in all the children (and adults too).

Book Week Whole School Dressup and Activity Day

What a fun day we had on Tuesday!

There were so many very creative costumes and plenty of excited children ready to bring to life their favourite book character. We saw Steve from Minecraft, Pig the Pug, Chewbacca, Harry Potter, Anne of Green Gables, Belle, Dog Man, unicorns, pirates, kings and so much more!

We formed 9 groups with students from each year level and we visited different teachers throughout the day. Each teacher looked at a special book that they love and did an activity. Some of the things we did was.....

  • Miss May looked at 'Beekle' and made imaginary friends
  • Mrs Black looked at 'Are We There Yet' and made paper plate scenes of Australia
  • Ms Hubbard looked at 'The Dot' and draw masterpiece drawings created from a single dot
  • Miss Rennick looked at the 'BFG' and made dream jars
  • Miss Donnelly looked at 'Alice in Wonderland' and painted the roses red
  • Mrs Blackburn looked at 'Room on the Broom' and we made our own witch characters
  • There was many more fantastic books and activities throughout the day!

The purpose of the day was to encourage students to see the different types of books that surround us and how much fun they are to read and explore. Take a look at some of the great pictures we took on the day!

Bedtime Story Day

How awesome is it to roll out of bed and come to school in your PJs, fluffy slippers and robe? I know the teachers sure love a PJ day at school, but it is more then just wear your PJs to school day. We were looking at bedtime stories and our favourite ones from childhood. The stories we love to read before we snore in our beds. The stories that make us feel happy, safe and loved.

In Junior school we gathered around and snuggled up and read a few of our favourite bedtime stories. We also read our books to our buddies and Senior school friends. It was a great day full of sharing our love of picture story books and cosy PJs. We even saw a bedtime teddy friend or two as well!

KPS Celebration Day!!

WE DID IT!!! 2 Thousand Positive Acknowledgements

As you have heard from your child, we have been rewarding students with feathers. 10 feathers earn us a wing and 10 wings earn us a bird from the tree in the foyer. So WE DID IT!! We hit our target of 20 birds, which is 2 thousand acknowledgements! The students have been so excited to see the birds being added to the trees and have been rewarded for using our 3 KPS values - Excellence, Resilience and Respect. We have not only been recognising these values in what we do in and out of the classroom but we have been recognising these values in other people too and rewarding them as well!

In celebration of achieving our first goal, we had our first Celebration Day last Friday. All the students in the school voted on how to celebrate and the most popular choice was 'Bring Your Wheels to School Day'. WOW what fun that was!! We had bikes, scooters, rollerskates and blades, prams, cars....and even wheely shoes! We got to use our wheels outside on the basketball court and had so much fun. We rode around and raced friends. We used pathways as roads and even downhill slopes to pick up speed. There were so many happy, smiling children and what a fantastic way to celebrate our goal! The next goal we want to achieve is 5 thousand acknowledgements and we are more than halfway there already!

Como House Excursion

What a wonderful day we had at Como House this week! The weather was sunny and bright and we could not ask for better weather. Dressed up in all our olden day clothes, we made our way to Como House. Such a glorious old mansion and full of antiques and memories from days of old. The children loved exploring the house and looking at all the old furniture, china, books and nick nacks. We had a chance to pretend to be a servant and wash clothes, carry around drinks and be summonsed by the ringing of a bell. We also had a chance to play some old fashioned games which was a really hit with the kids! Favourites included quoits, croquet, tug-o-war and sack races! Finally we also had a chance to explore the beautiful gardens surrounding Como House. We we on a mystery hunt to find clues to determine who broke a precious doll belonging to a former resident of the house. The excursion was a fantastic day and fun was had by all who went!
