Curriculum News

A busy and exciting few weeks await us with NAPLAN testing, Open Night, Education Week and the Select Entry Accelerated Program testing for 2017, all happening in May.

NAPLAN testing begins next week for our Year 7 and 9 students. Students will be tested in Mathematics and English over three days, commencing Tuesday morning and concluding on Thursday.

We ask that parents talk with their children about the importance of this testing as the results are a clear indicator of how students perform in VCE.  Teachers also use this data to inform their teaching of your children, ensuring each child’s strengths are developed and their weaknesses are addressed in the classroom.

Students are reminded they must bring a calculator on Thursday 12 May, as iPads and other electronic equipment are not permitted throughout the testing period.

It is recommended students bring a book to read should they complete the testing early and have carefully proofread their work.

We wish all students well in this testing and encourage them to do their very best!

Tuesday 10 May is Open Night! This is a wonderful chance for prospective students and their parents and guardians to see the fantastic, engaging and deep learning opportunities we offer all students here at Lilydale High School.

We extend an invitation to primary students and their parents and guardians to join us in the School Hall at 7.30 pm.

There will also be opportunities to speak with teachers and current students whilst visiting classrooms where work will be both on display and in progress. An exciting and educative night, indeed!

The fun continues in Education Week, commencing Monday 16 May.   Students will have the opportunity to engage in multiple activities, including a Literary Lunch where our very best writers and their writing will be celebrated; poster competitions in Languages; Mathematics will host board games and a ‘Mathopoly’ session; PASE will keep us all fit and healthy with a variety of activities and Science will wow us with a robotics race and a rocket launch. Meanwhile Arts will run creative sessions each day and students will make apple spirals in Technology.

And finally, Friday 20 May is testing day for our prospective 2017 Select Entry Students. All information including times, cost as well as application forms are available on the school website.
