MELBOURNE GUN CLUB

Yarra Valley School Shoot Competition

On Thursday 21 April, the Yarra Valley School Shoot event was again held at Lilydale on the beautiful Melbourne Gun Club grounds.   Despite the threat of bad weather earlier in the week, it was a pleasant autumn day.

The Melbourne Gun Club is one of the biggest and best equipped clay target shooting clubs in Australasia.  Approximately 12 schools attended, including students from the Hutchins School in Tasmania.  They have been regular participants in the event over the years.

A total of 27 squads participated on the day in a 30 shot medley event comprising 10 DTL, 10 Skeet targets and 10 sporting/5 stand targets.

There were male and female categories for juniors and seniors, a team award and an overall High Gun.

The Overall Winner on the day was Mitchell Illes (29/30).

Other winners were Junior Girls; Emily Cook (23/30 ) , Junior Boys;  Ben Burchell (25/30),  Senior Girls; Aislin Jones (27/30) and Senior Boys; Jack Stockdale (28/30).

The winners of the team event and taking home the Kath McColl shield were the team of  Connor Crane,  Aislin Jones, Ben Burchell, Brayden Baade and Adam Beechey from Nagle College with a total of 122/150.

We would like to thank the many people on the day who helped.  Without them the day would not have been the success that it was.  In particular I would like to thank the major sponsors; Steve Pelligrino Travel (Ringwood),  Peter Voutier from FERALEX Pest Control, Lilydale High School and the SE Zone.  Without their generous support the event would not have been possible.

Next year’s event, is scheduled for Thursday 27 April, and is open to all Lilydale High School students.  Hopefully next year, some new schools may attend the next event.
