EIS Basketball 3on3 Tournament
On Thursday 28 April, 7 students from the Year 10 EIS program, plus 3 students from Year 9 competed in the Molten 3on3 tournament. The students played against teams from all over Victoria in the 3on3 format.
Each of the teams had some success on the day with the Year 10 Boys making it into the finals rounds and the Year 9 Boys being very unlucky to miss out.
Well done to all the students that competed.
Danny Allsopp Visit
9.18 Athlete Development Class
On Wednesday 20 April, Danny Allsopp a retired Australian soccer player came down to talk to 9.18.
He gave us an insight on the up's and downs of his career as well as stating the hard journey to become a professional athlete. He taught us that you need to make sacrifices in order to achieve your goals.
It was very intriguing as we got to learn what it takes to become and continue to be a successful professional athlete. He gave us a very personal insight of the sacrifices and hard work he put on the line in order to reach his goal.
He told us that 'you can have all the talent in the world but if you're not determined or dedicated you won't succeed'.
Overall he gave us a brilliant insight on what it takes become like him. On top of that he also ran a couple of soccer drills for the class to enjoy. We really appreciate Danny coming down and we all enjoyed his visit.

Boys and Girls
On Friday 15 April, we had 4 boys teams and 2 girls team compete in the Yarra Division Basketball competition at Knox.
Each of the teams played well on the day with one of the boys teams winning the B competition. The girls managed to get through the day with very convincing wins and will progress onto the region level of competition.
The A boys team faced Emerald in the final. The game was a thriller with the boys being down all game before stealing the win in the final moments of the game.
The boys will also progress onto the Region level of competition.
Victorian Institute of Sport
On Wednesday 4 May, the Year 9 Athlete Development class caught the train to Albert Park to visit the Victorian Institute of Sport. It was a perfect experience for our class, as we got a taste of where the top athletes train, eat and learn.
We had the pleasure of starting our tour by watching some wheelchair rugby, where we learnt that nothing can stop you, no matter the circumstance.
The class then met one of the joint Australian 800m record holders, Alex Rowe who has run an outstanding time of 1.44.40. He took us for a tour of the VIS starting with the recovery pools, explaining the benefits of having such great facilities, moving onto the gym area that is used for strength and conditioning training and then on to many more amazing facilities including the Athletics track.
After the tour finished we were able to ask many questions about Alex Rowe's experience and the VIS as a whole. This was a great time to get some understanding of nutrition, injury prevention and the work that goes into achieving the highest level possible in each of our chosen sports.
We then finished the tour with a few physical activities to get our heart rates up. Theses included things such as the vertical jump, burpee test and push up test.
Thank you to Mr Stuart and Mr Morton for taking us and to the VIS; it was an amazing experience.
