ANZAC DAY EXCURSION

Shrine of Remembrance

On Friday 22 April,  we were lucky enough to be included in the group of students attending the ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for students, held by Legacy, at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.

This event combined education with commemoration and is attended annually by thousands of students.

It was an amazing opportunity to learn about the history of the ANZACs and to remember and pay tribute to those who bravely served and suffered for our country.

We were incredibly honoured to have the chance to lay a beautiful wreath in front of the Eternal Flame on behalf of Lilydale High School.

Overall, it was a remarkable experience and we would like to thank Ms Mays for all her hard work in the lead up to this event.

ANZAC DAY

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

ANZAC Day Excursion

On Friday 22 April, over 100 Lilydale High students payed their respects to our fallen soldiers, survivors and those currently serving in war at the ANZAC Commemoration for students.

The ceremony began with the marching of the guard of honour. They marched up towards the Shrine and captured all of our attention.  We were welcomed by the governor of Victoria, who reminded us of why we were there, and the importance of the day’s ceremony.

Lilydale High showed their respect to Australia’s fallen soldiers by laying a wreath under the eternal flame. This is a great honour carried out by our two Year 12 leaders who attended on the day.

Out of the numerous schools who were present, an elderly gentleman quietly

deemed our wreath as the best one there, even though it had ‘south African’ flowers.

The rest of the ceremony continued with joyous songs, such as Waltzing Matilda and I Am Australian, as well as the presentation of two ANZAC poems, read by the students of Melbourne High School.

It was a terrific day and on behalf of all 100 students who attended we would like to thank Ms Mays for giving us the opportunity to be a part of an amazing ANZAC ceremony.

Lest we forget.
