The Canonisation of Mother Teresa

"Small Things With Great Love"

This coming Sunday 4 September, Mother Teresa of Calcutta will be canonised a saint by the Catholic Church.

She is recognised for her commitment to work among the poorest of the poor in Calcutta, India.  It is clear that there was one single motivation for the service that she did and that was love.   The source of that love was God, who, according to Mother Teresa, "offers personal and tender love to all".  Based on her absolute belief in the dignity of each and every human being, Mother Teresa saw every person as a child of God regardless of race, religion, or social standing.  For this reason, she saw her work among the poor as the most noble work to be done.

Mother Teresa said, “Love is not talking, love is living.  I can talk about love the whole day and love not once.  Love is not measured by how much we do, love is measured by how much we put in.”

Over this coming week, take some time to reflect on the following teaching of Mother Teresa:

(1)  The fruit of silence is prayer

(2)  The fruit of prayer is faith

(3)  The fruit of faith is love

(4)  The fruit of love is service

(5) The fruit of service is peace
