La Salle House

La Salle House

Started the year with a bang!

The first House competition was Senior House Athletics. The aim for this House competition was to have every La Salle student in an event.  The inspirational grand entrance by our Year 12 students clearly set the triumphant tone for the day as La Salle House was victorious in this event!

Additionally, the Hackett Mile was also run during Term 1 and La Salle had great success in this long distance running event. The Year 11 and 12 La Salle runners took the gold and bronze positions. Congratulations to Year 12 Matt Crowley (1st) and Lachlan Wigney (3rd) and in Year 11 Nick Carlon (1st) and Nick Law (3rd).

Although La Salle House is inspirationally led by House Captain Matthew Crowley and his Vice-Captains, Luke Russo and Simon O’Loughlin, all students in our House are considered leaders in their own right.  La Salle House is also very fortunate to have very reliable Tutor Group Captains serving as terrific role models for their peers.

Community Service

In terms of community service and fundraising, La Salle House students should be very proud of their contributions to the largest amount of money raised by St Bede’s College students for Mission Action Day (MAD). La Salle House raised over $11,000! These funds will be used to help those in marginalised communities, and some of the La Salle Year 11 students will be heading to Thailand later in the year which provides a practical insight into the benefits of these fundraising activities.  Students heading to Thailand to build classrooms with the funds raised by MAD are:  Nick Law and Liam Mulcahy in Group 1 and in Group 2, Daniel Ridout.  Year 12s also have an opportunity to head to India at the end of the year to build classrooms as part of the India Outreach Program. The Year 12 students going to India are: Jonathan Cannizzaro; Liam Coultas; Jack Erbacher; Simon O’Loughlin; Luke Russo and Tom Weston-Arnold.

The Beda Brother Program is a new initiative that has started this year.  Year 11 students: Laurence Welford, Liam Mulcahy, Jake Carnovale, Jackson Stafford have been big brother to students in Year 7.1. Three mornings a week these big brothers spend time with the Year 7s in the Morning Homeroom to help them out with their transition into secondary school.

There was a great La Salle Team pride demonstrated in the House Swimming Competition. La Salle (Senior) Team was victorious! The House Swimming Champions were Matthew Crowley 4th (Year 12); Austin Lam 2nd (Year 11); Lachlan Bilston 1st (Year 10); and Gerard Kelly 4th (Year 10).

The Year 10 La Salle students have had a very busy Term 3. They have had to decide on the subjects that they would like to enrol in for 2017 and decide whether to be a VCAL or VCE student. They have also had one week of work experience, getting a taste of the world of work followed by a terrific week at the Grampians, on the Year 10 Camp.

The Year 12 students had a terrific night during one of their rite of passages in the Year 12 Formal which was held at Brighton International.  The House Footy Competition (Year 12) is being held in the last week of this Term. Hopefully the La Salle students can get a good win!

Lastly, many La Salle students have represented the College in ACC Sporting Teams. Each student has shown excellent sportsmanship qualities. Other students are actively involved in the Arts, Debating, Theatre and Public Speaking.  The following students have been involved in the College’s yearly production: Jack Erbacher; Ben Erbacher; Nick Gale; Gerard Kelly (Westside Story) and James Campbell; James Egan; and Jake Carnovale (Stage door). All students must be congratulated for the way they get Involved with the varied activities in the College community.
