Term four always seems to be such a frantic term in the school year. Course work is being finalised and students are beginning to prepare for exams. It is important to remember that exams are not about tripping anyone up, but are about providing students with the chance to demonstrate what they have learnt over the semester.  Staff will work with the students over the coming weeks to assist them in preparing for the end of year exams. It is important that the students remain focussed and implement the study techniques that the teachers have taught them.

At our College Assembly on 16 October, we acknowledged and thanked our outgoing Student Leadership Team. I thanked them for their commitment, energy, passion and great sense of fun. You have worked well together in order to provide all of us with a range of amazing experiences throughout the year. Thank you for having the courage to take on these important leadership roles.

I would also like to congratulate the students that received a Virtue and Courage award and House strips. Through your actions and words you have truly demonstrated your commitment to the values of our community. It is with delight that we welcome the new Student Leadership Team, in particular the 2019 College Captains, Amy Smedley and Mia Paladino. Congratulations to all members of the team and I look forward to working with you in 2019.

On Tuesday 16 October the VCE Folio Exhibition was held in the newly renovated Giovanni building. It was a fantastic display of the incredible talent of our Art and Design students. Congratulations to all students involved and to our VCE Art and Design staff.

On 18 October, we welcomed back to MSJ Sr Giovanni Farquhar past principal, Sr Therese Quinn and Sr Marie Hanger past teachers, who returned to share their memories and stories about their time teaching at the College.  As well as being interviewed and filmed by Year 11 Media students, they enjoyed a tour of the College and Liturgy with Ministry students. The media students will, as part of their class work, will use the footage and interviews to develop a short film. In the coming months we will endeavour to meet with more of the sisters so that we can also record their stories.

It is always sad to say goodbye, but it is time for us to farewell the 2018 Year 12 class.  These students over their time here at MSJ have made some amazing contributions to our community.  They have been a group of young women who worked hard, have embraced the many wonderful opportunities presented to them and have stood up against discrimination and injustices.

I wish them well and I hope that they take with them many happy memories of their time here at MSJ. I ask that they continue to live their life with virtue and courage.
