Mr Millar

I wish all families and staff members a safe and restful holiday break.

Term Two has definitely been busy with lots of exciting learning experiences such as: the Sustainability Market; incursions and excursions; Reports and Student-Led Conferences; soirees; masses and sporting events.

Looking ahead to Term Three, we have our big musical, The Lion King Jr., which will be performed by the students at the end of term at Firbank Grammar on September 20th. The students will be exploring our STREAM Big Idea called Creativity/Stories. The teachers are already busy planning some fantastic learning opportunities that I am sure the students will enjoy.

Tomorrow, families are welcome to attend the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul Mass from 9.30am.

End of term will conclude at 1.30pm tomorrow, Friday 29th June. Please ensure you have someone to pick up your child/children on time or book them into GOSH which will be open from 1.30pm.

Science Incursion

On Monday June 25th, the students of Galilee participated in the Jollybops Science Show in the the school hall.

The show titled 'Flight, Sound and Fire – Science with an Aboriginal Perspective' looked at the scientific principles behind some of the great inventions and environmental understandings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. They learnt about the science of sound and the Didgeridoo (Yidaki) and found out about the inventions of the great Aboriginal Scientist (and face of the $50 note) David Unaipon. The incursion also focused on sustainability and  how the Indigenous People of Northern Territory today are helping cut greenhouse gases with their Caring for Country Fire Management Practices.

The students were thoroughly engaged and interacted with the presenters.  Thank you to Mrs Jane Ferris for organising this experience for the students.

Year 3-6 Lunchtime Sport Training

Next term our Year 3-6 students will be participating in a number of sporting events.  On Tuesday 24th July, there is Beachside Soccer for Year 5/6 and on Friday 10th August some Year 3-6 students will be participating in Dendy Athletics.  Later in the term, all Year 3-6 students will participate in Hoop Time (basketball).

In preparation for these events, staff will be training students one lunchtime per week leading up to each event.  No permission will be required as the Local Walks Form covers students for each of these locations. Dojo will be sent out to inform you of when and where these events are being held.  Please note that the Athletics Team chosen for Dendy will be training at Lakeside Stadium on July 18 & 25. Soccer and basketball training will be held at school.  Thank you to Miss Smith, Miss Biggs, Miss Burke, Mr Coaley, Mrs Walker, Miss Fahy, Mr Martello, Mr Millar and Jess Conway for volunteering their time to ensure our students give their best when representing our school.

Term 3 Week 1 & 2 Timetable Change

Due to the teachers supervising the lunchtime Athletics training, the Specialist timetable will change for Weeks 1 and 2 next term.  Year 2F will need to wear their Sport Uniform on Tuesday for the first two weeks.

Food Allergies

If you are providing home-made treats for celebrations, can you please give the classroom teacher a list of ingredients that the treats are made from and avoid using peanuts as we have a number of students with allergies.

Galilee Library Books

We would like to sincerely thank all parents who have been volunteering to cover books this year, it's been a great help.

Overdue notices have been sent home this week. Please check your home bookshelves for any Galilee books and return to the school office or library next term.

Term 3 Staffing

For the first four weeks of Term Three, Ms Giles will be on Long Service Leave and be replaced by Miss Romios in 4G from Tuesday - Friday.

We look forward to welcoming back Miss Ford from Sick Leave at the beginning of Term Three.

Rosa will be away on Sick Leave for the first six weeks of Term Three to have a hip-replacement. We wish her every success with the operation.

Voice Soiree

Last Tuesday and Wednesday nights we held our Semester One Soirees for: Voice, Drums, Guitar, Keyboard and Violin. Both nights were a success and attended by many families. We congratulate the students for their performances and to the instrumental teachers for their time and preparation.

This week we received the unfortunate news that Anita, our Voice Teacher/Coach, has made the decision to leave Galilee after 7 1/2 years at the conclusion of this term. Anita has taught many students how to sing; she has coordinated soirees, choirs and masses. We are grateful for the contributions that Anita has made to our students and the Galilee community. We wish her every success for her future endeavours.

Please note that Voice Coaching will continue in Term Three at Galilee with more information to be provided once the new teacher has been finalised.
