Open Day Display

Year 8 HASS students were busy manning a polling station on Open Day, which showcased the most recent Year 8 Civics and Citizenship assessment. All students in Year 8 created a political party and were asked to:

Task 1: Complete a research booklet on three key policies and influences on their political party

Task 2: Create a campaign poster or IMovie

Task 3: Design a How-to-vote card

Task 4: Present a speech to the class outlining their election policies

Visitors to the College Open Day were also asked to cast their vote on the party of their choice. This happened to coincide with the State Election which made the display both topical and highly engaging for all ‘parties’ concerned.

I would like to thank the students who contributed to the event, either through the outstanding work displayed or by volunteering to assist from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Special thanks to Miss Daisy Farley and the amazing HASS staff who spent an extraordinary amount of time creating the display, organising prizes and giveaways, and encouraging visitors to vote in the most important election on the day!
