Junior School Highlights

Year 7 Highlights

Welcome to our Year 7 students and their families. We have a busy term on the go with FRIENDS Program, camp, swimming carnival, Year 7 sports day and cross-country.  Our Junior School focus and motto is: Get Organised, Get Focused, Get Involved!

We invite all Year 7 families to join us at the Year 7 Parent Evening on Wednesday 19th February, commencing at 6:30pm with our Year 7 parent welcome, which will be followed by the FRIENDS information session at 7pm.

It is important to keep lines of communication open so please ensure that Year 7 students are using their planners and parents are regularly checking them and using the XUNO Portal for messages that are being sent home.

Any concerns, issues or information that we may need, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Have a terrific 2020.

Year 8 Highlights

We are back and everyone is straight into learning. This year students have Chromebooks and should ensure they are charged ready to be used to support their learning.

We love to celebrate our students’ accomplishments, and at the end of last year one of our students made us extremely proud.

Every year Australian Tax Office (ATO) runs a competition called TAX SUPER AND YOU across all the states to promote the importance of Tax and Super in the community. Primary and High school students across Australia can participate in this competition in which they have to show their creativity for highlighting the value Tax and Super in the community either by writing a poem, making a video or any other form of creative work.

The 2019 first prize winner was Alma-Mia from Year 8C who won 2 First prizes in the following 2 categories:

  • Junior category Award - Alma-Mia made a very creative video to highlight the value of Tax and Super. Her video was an amazing piece of art work and won first prize.
  • People’s Choice Award - which is given to the entry which gets maximum number of votes from the people in the community.

As a first prize winner, she has received a gift card of $800 for herself and $1200 gift card for our school Glen Eira College. Last but not least, Alma-Mia and her family were invited by the Australian Tax Office to attend the Awards Ceremony in Canberra on Wednesday 4th December 2019 with all the fares covered by ATO.

Also, two students received  a certificate of participation from ATO in Tax Super and You competition 2019:

Hugh Buckingham 8C

Khai Tschuemperlin 8B

A big “Thank you” goes to Parminder Kaur for organising this opportunity.

Welcome to Year 9

We’ll start the first newsletter by congratulating you all for your hard work in Year 8; the result of which is that you’ve made it to Year 9, the senior cohort of middle school. We hope you’ve all had a good start to this year so far.

As Year 9s it’s your job to build on the good work you did in Year 8 and set a good example for the junior school:

  • Get organised – developing time management skills, study routines, and wear the correct uniform
  • Get focused – listen respectfully, be punctual, submit work on time to your teachers
  • Get involved – we’d love your input/suggestions. What would you like to achieve in Year 9 so that you are proud of what you do at school?

A couple of reminders for families of Year 9:

  • If your child is absent, call the school absence line on 9571 4178 as soon as you can on each day that they are going to be away. Bring a note to the General Office as well to explain your absence.
  • Complete and submit all the Year 9 program paperwork so that you can get involved in the great activities that we’ve prepared for you this year!
  • Year 9 camp will be from the 5th to the 9th October this year
  • Parent teacher interviews are in week 8 (surnames A-K), and week 9 (L-Z) of term 1. Bookings for these will open on XUNO on Monday of week 8 (the 16th March).
  • Check with your child that they know all their assessment tasks and when they’re due for term 1.
  • The Year 9s have been great with uniform so far, but make sure to send your child to school with a note if they’re going to be out of uniform for the day.

Just keep in mind this year, education is not the learning of the facts but the training of the mind to think right, and mistakes are the proof that you are trying. But repetitive mistakes shows that you are not quite clear about the right expectations from you as a student. I suggest you to take responsibility and try afresh next time.

It’s great to meet you and we look forward to working with you all this year, Year 9s! Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
