What a fabulous start we’ve had in the kitchen this term. Our spring dips have definitely been a big hit with our students, volunteers and staff! We have been talking about beetroot; how they grow and some of the delicious ways to serve them. Spring is the perfect time to entertain guests and create dishes that are made to share, so we have been making four yummy fresh dips, some flatbread and a salad (year 5 and 6). Our menu has consisted of:
All dips were served with flatbread. Our Year 5 and 6 students even made a delicious celery, apple leafy salad.
Last Friday, Mrs Skiba and I were lucky enough to attend a wonderful professional development day at the Stephanie Alexander headquarters at Collingwood College. We listened to inspiring guest speaker Joost Bakker discussing soil health, participated in a root to tip cooking workshop with Tim Bone (MasterChef finalist 2019) and met with the wonderful Stephanie Alexander! I can honestly say I walked away with a new energy and fresh ideas for 2020.
Healthy habit tip
Make eating colourful! Different coloured fruit and vegetables all have their own individual health benefits. Try to add colours like red, blue yellow and green into your dishes to make them fun, but more importantly good for you!
An exciting new project is happening in the garden. Stay tuned for the final product. Thank you to Dave, parent of Olivia and Mia, for volunteering to build this project
