Student Wellbeing
Dear Parents,
Last year we introduced the Kelso's Choice Wheel to the students during our Friendship Groups and have continued to reinforce the use of choices this year. You may have noticed the posters around the school, both in the classrooms and playground.
This conflict resolution strategy teaches our students the difference between big problems and little problems. Kelso the frog is a fun and engaging way for students to learn conflict management.
The program offers nine options students can choose from to resolve “small problems” on their own. These are illustrated in the Kelso’s Choice Wheel. They include:
Go to another game
Talk it out
Share and take turns
Ignore it
Walk away
Tell them to stop
Apologize
Make a deal
Wait and cool off
Students are learning to determine the difference between minor problems they can handle and serious problems that require an adult’s help.
Our teachers are regularly referring to the Kelso Choice Wheel and encouraging the students to make the appropriate choice.
We would encourage you as parents to also use this strategy at home. Please click on the links for further information and activities.
