Australian Catholic University Placements

This year we have five pre-service teachers  from Australian Catholic University completing their final teaching placement at Galilee.  Many courses require students to complete professional placements as part of their studies. Some courses have specific requirements to ensure students meet professional registration obligations. Other courses offer students the flexibility to tailor their work placements to suit their learning needs.

The following pre-service teachers will be working in classrooms, some beginning this week and all five taking full control in Term 2:

  • Lauren Bland (Bachelor of Primary Education 40 days) in 3R
  • Gemma Sullivan (Bachelor of Primary Education 40 days) in 1C
  • Patrick Crisostomo (Master of Teaching 22 days) in 2F
  • Stephanie Leo (Master of Teaching 22 days) in 3W
  • Ruth Mulhern (Master of Teaching 22 days) in 6C.

We warmly welcome these students to our school and wish them all the best with their final teaching placement.  Thank you to Mrs Rochecouste, Miss Cox, Miss Fahy, Miss Wallis and Mr Coaley for mentoring and supervising them.

Open Morning Cancelled Next Week

Please note that Open Morning, next Monday 26th March, will not take place. Open Morning will resume on a Monday morning in Term 2.

End of Term 1 and the Start of Term 2

Term 1 will conclude at 1.30pm on Thursday 29th March. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter and a safe and relaxing holiday.

Term 2 will commence for students on Monday 16th April.

Leadership Conference

A number of Year Six Leaders attended a Leadership Conference on Wednesday 26th March with Miss Biggs. The students traveled to the St Kilda Town Hall for a leadership forum. They worked with a number of different schools in the Port Phillip area to explore ways we can reduce stress, create positive friendships and develop healthy coping strategies for our students.

Catholic Education Week

Last Friday our Social Justice Leaders from Year 3-6 and our two School Captains represented Galilee at the St. Patrick's Day Mass. Last week was Catholic Education Week and there were different events happening throughout the week with a large number of Catholic Schools from around Melbourne gathering for the St. Patrick's Day Mass and Concert in Treasury Gardens.

We thank Mr. Millar and Tegan for supervising the students during this event.

Premiers Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge encourages children to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online.

Since the Challenge began 14 years ago, more than 2.2 million students have turned the pages of nearly 42 million books.

The Challenge for schools is now open and will run until Friday 7 September 2017.

Regular reading from an early age is vital for success at school and has lifelong benefits. The Challenge encourages children to read more and promotes a love of reading, supporting the Education State target to have more students reaching the highest levels of achievement in reading.

Information and consent forms were sent home with your child last week.  If you would like your child to participate in the challenge, please sign and return the form to the class teacher so a username and password can be organised.
