Message from the

Head of Junior School

Mr Rob McLean

As Term 3 draws to its conclusion one looks back on areas of great strength and areas of improvement needed for the various programs at school. It is impossible to compare 2020 to any other year but the term certainly demonstrated the adaptability of staff and students to the various challenges, restrictions and changes made.

While the academic, sporting, performing arts and wellbeing programs have made significant advances the connectedness with families has been the most difficult to navigate. With technology such as Zoom, Facetime and Teams playing pivotal roles in keeping the world in touch the person to person relationships in schools between parents, students and staff is impossible to replicate in the cyber world.

Let us hope conditions do improve so the person to person relationships can be reignited in the not too distant future.

Unfortunately, Grandparents Day which has always been a day signifying wonderful relationships across generations has been cancelled for 2020.  Our Outdoor Education week featuring overnight activities has also been cancelled. We are presently looking at in house learning activities for that week to celebrate the conclusion of the school year. While Term 3 normally features our musicals, we hope to be able to perform in a different way at the end of Term 4. If we can continue choirs without singing I know we’ll find a way!

In Staff news, Mrs Rebecca Whiteley has recovered from surgery in Term 2 and we look forward to her returning at the beginning of next term.  Mrs Emma Charlton will return to her role as Literacy Co-ordinator (K-6) after an outstanding two terms with Year 1. We thank her most sincerely for her work in educating our younger students.

Congratulations to Katherine Tollner (Mr Whitehead’s wife) who has received the Public Service Medal from the State Governor General, Margaret Beazley at a special function last week. Katherine won the award for outstanding public service to people with a disability in New South Wales . A wonderful achievement.
